X line vs M sport, pros and cons

About to place an order and debating the pros and cost of the x line vs m sport trim lines for the 40i. This car is for my wife and will be used with a child (2 rows only), so I am not necessarily looking for a sporty configuration, more a comfortable family hauler.

Most here seem to prefer the M sport, but most here are enthusiasts like myself and my wife is not. How would you configure a 40i as a luxury family hauler? It will be black, and for me at least the shadowline trim suits the non black colors a little better, black with shadowline to me looks a little too murdered out. Thoughts?

In particular, which will be more comfortable, 2 axle air suspension or the adjustable m sport suspension? We currently have a range rover and being able to lower the ride height to get in and out is quite convenient. I don't think the m sport suspension does that, correct?

Any opinions on choosing between these two are welcome.

2 axle air will be more comfortable than m-sport and will lower the suspension in sport mode.

If I'm not mistaken, the 2-axle air suspension isn't available with the M-sport, at least not until 12/18 build dates. Only then can you get the air suspension with the M-sport via adding the 3rd-row + air suspension option.

If you order it right now, the only way to get the 2-axle air susp is with the X-line.

I have not seen in person, but at this point my belief is that msport version will look best with 21” wheels and above. The 20” inch wheels are not staggered and seem to flow better with the Xline trim. I have not ordered because I’m struggling between xline and msport as well. I really don’t want to go with 21” wheels because of the winters in Chicago...

Of course you don't drive your 21" summer tires in 2 feet of snow
get some real winter tires (with a much softer rubber mix)

Well if your wife is not an enthusiast I suggest the normal X Line. We have both an XLine and M Sport F15 currently 2016 and 2017 and the M Sport in that model feels a little more aggressive due to the suspension and the Sports auto transmission which wasn't standard when we got the X Line. I dont see 5900 worth of value for someone who is not an enthusiast in the new model. Spend the money on air suspension and other comforts your wife will appreciate.

Our M-Sport will be my wife's daily driver. She can't stand the unpainted black plastic trim on the X-Line (she doesn't think it looks like it should be on an $80k car)...so for her it had to be the M-Sport. I'm not complaining!

I agree with your wife on the cheap looking black trim around the wheel wells and along the bottom of the doors.
Just looks wrong on any so called luxury vehicle.

Looks especially bad on white. On dark colors it's is less bad than f15 now that the arches are extended and not flat like in f15.

For $5900 you could get the offload package and 4 wheel steering and still have change.
