How long does production take
Hello,
We placed an order for our X5 last Friday. I was given access to the BMW garage and see that as of this morning it shows as entering the production queue. In addition, a VIN has been assigned. Anyone have any experience with how long it takes from the time production begins until the car is complete? Dealer is projecting delivery (at their site) as late October. Thanks, |

To answer your question, though, I asked my CA that very question and he said about a month. |

I placed an order in mid-August and I'm probably late November delivery per BMW Genius. It all depends on your build week (i.e., the week it is supposed to be complete) which is based on your dealer's allocations. So, two people can order the exact same car on the same day but have vastly different build weeks just by luck of the draw on what build week was assigned to the respective allocations. A month from when it goes into production in the system until delivery doesn't seem too far off. My build week is last week in October running into the first few days in November so late November delivery is pretty consistent with a month or so.

I've been tracking 2 X5s via the BMW MyGarage portal. The first X5 we had our name on (and later switched to a different one because we couldn't add M-Sport) was a week 36 build (Sept 3rd) and has been sitting at the status "At the Port" for a couple weeks now. I think there are a lot of early build X5s just waiting for shipment.
Our week 41 M-Sport is set to enter production October 8th! Almost there! Our CA is hoping the car will arrive in California by mid-Nov.

How do you all know what week your vehicle has been scheduled for production? Do you see that at some point in the "my garage" portal or are you getting that information from your dealer?

Need to call the dealer or BMW Genius can tell you if you give them the production number.

Thanks all.
Just called and was given an actual day for scheduled production to be completed - Oct 12th. Said usually two to two and 1/2 weeks after that and it should be on the dealer lot. So right on schedule (assuming no hiccups). It's a week 41 build (completion) but said they now can give completion estimate to the actual day. |

Production pushed out 2 weeks
Just called BMW Genius and learned that my Week 40 build got pushed out to Week 42 (October 15-21). No insight into why, other than "normal ebb and flow of production." Hurricane was not cited as the cause. Was quoted 7-10 days for it to get to suburban Chicago.
He did say that my allocation had originally been a Week 36 slot. At the time I placed my order on August 21, it had moved out to Week 40.

Did you order the premium pack? I was told the parking feature was a problem and was delaying builds with it in. We could have had an earlier build but had to go with week 45 in order to solve the vendor delays for this part.
Hopefully it doesn't get pushed out further! |

Many of these will sit until BMW does their release.

I placed my order for a 20 X5 M50i on October 5th for December delivery and still haven't received a production #. Now, I have never ordered a vehicle before, so i am new to this. I reached out to my salesman and he doesnt have one either...is this standard when ordering a car?

I could be wrong, but if you don't have a production number yet, that means that BMW NA doesn't have the order yet, which means you don't have a build week yet. |

A lot of it is due to the luck of the draw. If you have a dealer putting in a lot of custom orders, I'm sure all the early build week/allocations are already taken, so you get pushed to the back of the line. |

Picking ours up next week at the performance center. We placed the deposit on August 31st. Our specs were accepted by BMW NA on Sept 16th, received a production # for week 40, the first week of Oct. The VIN decoder states it was built Oct 1, in reality it rolled off the line on Oct 2. The VIR (vehicle injury report) states the final build date is 10/09. It was in QC for a week (Oct 2 to Oct 9) and then delivered to the performance center on Oct 14th. So essentially eight weeks. Performance Center Delivery typically adds 3 to 4 weeks.
