G80 M3 to have Tri-Turbo setup?

Just heard a new rumor where the next G80 M3 is going to be a Tri-Turbo setup with the 3rd turbo being electrically powered. I think this is plausible as the base G20 3-Series will all get a get 48Volt Electrical System in accordance with BMW's new CLAR architecture for the future. I predict the G80 M3 to have somewhere around 480hp and be RWD still, but will be about 150lbs lighter than the current F80 M3. Sounds exciting. Now if they could just get the exhaust note to sound right.

All good info. All I want to know is: Can a 6-speed manual be incorporated into a 48-volt system?

The M3 is supposed to share the new S58 coming in the x3m/x4m so if it's triturbo will be known pretty soon.

X3/X4M already revealed to have a "Twin Power" turbo.

Which could make it more doubtful... except "twin power turbo" is bmws branding for their entire line of turbo gas engines
Regular n55 and b58 were branded "twin power" and had twin scroll
S55 and the M V8s are branded twin power and have twin turbos
Could a potential S58 "twin" mean gas and electric turbos??? I could see that. I mean they were intentionally coy to use the branding term instead of the actual number. Personally i wouldn't rule either conventional twin turbo or the 3 turbo set up. Like I said above we will know when they debut.
This is all assuming the insider info passed along on the new model thread that they will share the S58 is still accurate

It’s a virtual guarantee. Hard to imagine any solid business case for them to use different engines. At most, I would expect ECU differences and slightly different exhaust.

Like you, I don’t think the TwinPower branding rules out an e-turbo + conventional twin exhaust driven turbo setup. That said, do I think we’ll see an e-turbo for the S58? I wouldn’t bet on it, but like you I wouldn’t completely rule it out either.

Mild hybrids don't require special transmissions because the generator/starter/hybrid motor are all the same device connected to the crankshaft. The boost in power is just a small torque boost to the crankshaft at the right times. The electric motor doesn't actually directly drive the wheels ever. There are other mild hybrids with manual transmissions.

If BMW doesn't make the G80 with a manual, it'd be pretty sad.

If there is a god, it will not be part of M3. Lets just pray it does not ever ever make it into that car. EVER.

Mild hybrids aren't that bad, other than the weight of the small Li-ion battery pack. A motor/generator unit replaces the alternator and main starter motor and simply provides boost to the crankshaft at strategic times. The engine and transmission are always connected to the rear wheels in the same way as all conventional cars are.

Hybrid is fine. I was referring to the 6-spd manual. I hope they make it advanced w DCT. no 6spd option. That can stay on lesser models and older cars with halogen lights.

You shut your whore mouth.

Seriously though, why do you care what other people get with the car? If I want one with a 6 speed, how does that affect you?
