New Z4 in 340 Hp faster than M2C in the ring?

BMW Blog states that the new Z4, in its weaker euro version, was faster than the M2C... And the 380 HP US version, would be faster than an M4 Comp?

Or is BMW understating the M2C times?

I believe BMW's stated Ring time for the M2C is 7:54, so 1 sec faster.

Sounds like a good omen for the Supra or future Z4M if they made one.

Need to see hp/lb number, it's juts Newtonian physics at the end. HP alone means little to figure out which one should be faster.

I am not surprised, the coupe version of my Z4 M roadster is faster on the track than the M3s of the same year. BTW, wasn't the civic Type R faster by 20s than the M2C?

Correct.

M4 factory time is 7:52.

255/275 on the Z4, 245/265 on the heavier/more powerful M2. That alone is worth a few seconds on the Ring with so many corners...

And, the Civic mentioned was using stickier tires.

With semi-slicks, infotainment and rear seat removed.

It did a 8:01 in stock form by Sport Auto.

It should be no surprise though, one is a purpose-built platform for a sports car, and the 2 series is an entry level sedan/coupe platform.

Where does it say it's faster than M2 Competition? BMWBlog compares the new Z4 to the OG M2. Also, as stated above, M2C official Nurburgring laptime by BMW is 7:54 vs 7:55 for Z4 by Sport Auto. Let's see what kind of laptime Sport Auto will come up with for M2C.

The article in fact specifically says "first M2". This is not the M2C they are referring too.

"recorded a lap time six seconds faster than Gebhardt's own in the first M2 (7:. That's right, the little soft-top convertible roadster was six seconds faster 'round the 'Ring than an M2. With less power, mind you."

My bad. Was about to swear that read somewhere it was 7:57....
Anyway, the US version would obviously be faster (40HP more)

So the Euro Z4 is down almost 50hp due to the particulate filter. Future models from all brands are getting gas particulate filters as well, including 718 GT4, .2 GT3 RS, etc. Euro regulations are going to render Ring time meaningless as they will done with vehicles handicapped by the filters.

Yes but with Cup 2 (R-compound) tires. Makes a huge difference in terms of lap times on a 13-mile track.
