Retrofit Navigation Software

I have a 2016 228xi and was in a 2018 3 series recently. The nav in the 3 series was way better than mine. It zoomed out showing the entire route with all the turn instructions in black boxes marking the turns. The map image was in higher def too to accomplish this.

Is this completely new nav software and can we load it onto our 2s? Or is it tied to the new version of iDrive?

Tied to new iDrive. Only way to retrofit is to replace whole unit a la BimmerTech.

I have a 2014 228. The Map version in my car was 2014. This weekend I loaded the 2018 version of the maps - no retrofitting of any hardware. It did take about 1 hour to upload. BimmerTech sells it.
