Where sits your gas needle when you fill up full?

I just wanted to clarify this is I'm having issues where 5 seconds after pumping gas the nozzle clicks off. My tank was like half full. After 2 or 3 tries and rotating the pump it worked until it clicked off full but then in my dash the gas needle was pretty high passing a few millimeters the full tick on the gauge.

Is this normal or do I have some kind of evap system issue

Full mark but not for too many miles. About 20-30 miles it will come off of full depending on the fill up. In your case if it was a one time event it could have been a bad nozzle at the gas pump.

Is this happening consistently or is it at one particular pump/station?

If it’s one-off occurrence, don’t worry about it. If it’s consistent then you may have an issue with your evap system. A few things could cause this, but what’s happening is pressure builds up to the point where the nozzle thinks your tank is full and shuts off.

Potentially damaging the (expensive) evap system is one of the many reasons it’s bad practice to top off one’s tank once it’s full. Not saying you do this, but perhaps PO did.

A few millimeters past the full mark on the gauge is fine. I notice that after every time I full up my car. Does the same in my 1997 Corolla.

the sweep of the needle is controlled by the cluster, not the level sender. In any case, not an issue.

I've had this happen at all my fills up at least once but like I said it's only in the first few seconds until I point the nozzle into a good direction with a rotation to it.

Like I continue going after it clicks because I know I'm not full tank for sure. Can this cause issues?

Looking at the needle from the guy's picture y needle seem to be at same height so I think when it eventually clicks off after it stopped doing it it clicks properly but yeah.

I read on here you had to hold the pump a certain angle or else it always clicks like this.
