HELP! Red Battery Icon & Power Steering Failure

So all the sudden yesterday when I was driving home my power steering went out and then the red battery icon came on the dash. I checked the power steering fluid level and it fills the canister about half way.

Any help is greatly appreciated as my mechanic is out of town at the moment.

Yeah, sounds like you serpentine belt came off the pulley which turns your alternator, power steering and other accessories. You might need a new belt and/or tensioner... Good luck...
