Any details on the AC system in the G05?

As a 4 year owner of the F15 35d, one of the biggest complaints is the AC system and it's poor ability to control the summer temps in the south. I've searched for details on the AC system and haven't found anything. Anyone heard of it'll be a dual system? One for the front and one for the rear? If there's no upgrades to the current system this may keep us out of the G05.

Agree, I have a F15 in SoFla...very slow to cool car down. I find I use max 95% of the time in summer. ventilated seats are pathetic, I can only feel the vent seats if I drive nakid (don't ask)

Agree! I coded my fan speed up on the front seats and still not much cooling. No where near as cool a Lexus seats.

I think we can assume it will be different since BMW eliminated the hot/cold center vent functionality. Can't help but wonder if the designed something new for the X5 and X7. X7 will need something much stronger.

This really is a big deal. My 18 F15 seems worse than previous years. It is slow to cool and delays around a minute before really kicking in. We will need some warm weather folks to test this since the G05 won't be in dealers until mid-September.

The new 5er was launched with a horrible AC system, apparently. Lots of complaints, even from Europe. Hopefully we get a better implementation this time.

2017 and up BMW's use the new and expensive R1234 refrigerant. Could be it is just not as efficient as the outgoing R134A.

I miss the good old days of R12. (sigh)

We have a 2016 F15 X5 and a 2018 G30 M550i. X5 AC is world's better than the M550i already, I was literally sweating every afternoon driving back home (after parking in the sun for a whole day).

I really hope the new X5 doesn't behave the same as G30...

Well that is just wonderful news... F15 is pretty bad, so you must be pissed off about the M550!

I also have an M550 and had the software updated specifically for the AC issue and it's much improved, they also removed some foam from the center vents to increase air flow and it's all good now, no problem on 95* plus humid days.
I would think the lessons learned would carry forward to the new X5.

Late last year when I test drove a 2018 M550i and a 2018 X5M, one thing I noticed was that the ventilated seats in the M550i didn't cool nearly as well as the ventilated seats in the X5M. Both had black interiors.

Can you share details of the update that was applied? I asked my CA multiple times and he said there was no update or service bulletin released on AC issue.

Here's 1 and there might be another one as well about the foam. Here's a link to another web boards discussion about the AC issues on the new 5 series. It's over 50 pages of posts, the solutions start around Jan. or Feb. 2018.

I assume you have the fan speed set to at least the middle setting and the temp. control (old manual wheels now in iDrive) set to full cold.

Funny on how I have been reading a lot about the AC not cold enough.
Both of my '14 F15 and current '17 G30 are working fine in cooling the interior down after soaked under the summer heat.

Maybe because I got the first batch of production?
But of course, compared to the E60, F10, and F06, the previous models are much2 colder.

Just drive a 958 Cayenne for a week, I bet you will appreciate how good is BMW's AC.

I don't think the issue is AC not cooling. Even after a day in the sun, my M550i can cool the interior down pretty efficiently. However it has struggled to maintain the temp especially around my head. The upper body temperature control does not seem to work, as my face would be burning hot no matter where I set the slider. Aiming the vents at my face helps, but also causes headache :/

Thanks! I think I read through that entire thread previously. Will check again.

To OP, sorry for the off topic discussion.

Have you tried using the Auto setting?
I have been using Auto for the air output control and just play with the temp and fan speed.
And so far, I have been keeping the fan speed at the minimum and it works great so far under So.Cal heatwaves.

Funny, we have had a 958 Cayenne in SouthEast Texas for 5 years and never once complained about the AC. And the cooled seats blow the BMW's away (my last was an F10 5 series).

Really??
I did brought it in twice to Rusnak Porsche and they said it work as it supposed to.
But, I agree on the cooling seat. It is better than the BMW. I can feel the air much much better.

Yes, never a complaint. We often have to turn the temp up as it gets too cold.

I also had an issue in the beginning with the f15 and f86. Until i realized that in auto setting you can still control the max setting the fan will be. So if you set it to auto and leave the fan setting in the middle it will try to cool car but will only use the fan half way. Now I have fan setting to max and use auto and once desired temp is reach the fan slows down.
