I did not. I do not have a code reader or anything like that. When I searched around on forums, some people said they drove it around and after awhile it automatically registered.
Someone else mentioned the Battery Safety Terminal as well when I asked this in another forum. To be honest, I'm not sure what that is. I just watched several "how to" videos on changing a battery on 328i, and I double-checked to make sure I didn't skip a step. I went out and took these pictures to show everything I did: Put the 10mm bolt back on the terminal and the 13mm bolt back on the other post. Breather tube is back in. Didn't remove this 13mm bolt, some people just left it on for the install, some people took it off and then reconnected it. Just showing that mine is still connected. The large blue clip is clipped back in to the slot with the blue dot, and the other large clip is clipped into the first slot. Negative terminal 10mm is back on and the small blue clip is plugged back in. |

I did some googling and get a lot of different information. I have even seen people basically say that registering the battery and clearing the codes could fix it. |

The black sheathed thin cable visible in that picture that runs on the side of the battery and goes to the red plus terminal is not plugged in or is not seated well. You may have knocked it off from the plus terminal (BST). It is very flimsy connector, once knocked off even if you put it back in it may not make good connection. I ended up taping mine around the red post with electric tape good to keep it pushed in and seated all the time, that took care of my issue. I had knocked it off from its place during battery replacement. Once in a while I was getting those errors after that, until I pushed and held in place like that.

Did you have to erase the codes with a code reader after you put it back in? |

It was a long while ago I don't remember well but most probably cleared the code. Some codes clear themselves after computer decides enough driving time passed with condition not occurring anymore. I don't know if this is one of those or you do have to clear the code.

A local auto shop that specializes in European cars registered the battery and then it let them clear the codes. All is good now, and they only charged me 25 bucks!
Thanks for all your help, I just put it up in the classifieds section. |
