Getting the most out of my F25 N20
The X3 specific forums think the N20 is a joke and only the N55 is fast so here I am...
I have a 2013 X3 28i M sport. Right now it just has a JB+ and I got rid of the RFT's for some Firestone Indy 500's. Night and day difference almost comically faster and now corners like a proper BMW. I'll eventually upgrade to a JB4 and catless downpipe, would love to see mid 13s. Anything else to do? I've yet to run it down the track with just the JB+ and non-RFT tires, I'll do that next week. Kinda curious what to expect. |

You could honestly do a lot with the engine in terms of aftermarket parts to tack on but it comes to a matter of how far you're wanting to go with it. Do you want to just keep it around the Stage 1 area or go for Stage 2? If I were you, take a look at flash tunes (Few out there like BM3, AA, Velos, etc.). They'll give you much better power delivery in terms of smoothness and safety. If you couple that with supporting mods, you can milk a lot of power (in N20 terms) out of her. Most are 290whp+ on a Stage 2 flash or (Map 5?) JB4.

Definitely pick up a FMIC and flash tune. Probably also should grab a metal charge pipe as the plastic ones are prone to break.
Once you hit the track, please post to the N20 / N26 Speed Rankings thread. Welcome to the 3er forum, feel free to pick our brains and hang out a while! |

I want to have a safe daily driven consistent 13 second X3, even if that means 13.8. I live in Florida so we have no emissions so a catless DP from Evolution Racewerks is definitely on the list. Don't really want it louder than stock in terms of exhaust note if I don't have to (catback, etc). The F25 28i xdrive isn't but a couple pounds heavier than a F20 28i xdrive so I don't expect to be much slower with comparable mods... maybe .15? The vehicle itself has 46k highway miles. Having a 13 second X3 28i will definitely upset some people that's my goal!
Not sure what stages entail in terms of mods. I'm old school so back in the day the JB4 Stage 2 map was the way to go and I went with the JB+ so I can get that $200 credit towards it once I get the downpipe but now it seems BM3 is the route to go? Do they have downloadable maps or do I have to get the car custom tuned every time I change something? I don't think anyone makes a specific X25 N20 bolt-in intercooler upgrade or metal charge pipes which is a problem unless someone knows of one? Here's a pic of her towing my beast (highly modified yamaha FZR waverunner 400hp 87mph, soon hopefully low 90s with a supercharger wheel upgrade) https://photos.app.goo.gl/ZqwwNDV4HCyR7mPr8 Last edited by Riick; 07-27-2018 at 10:01 AM.. |

Otherwise, a Stage 1 flash would be your best bet in the meantime. Get a solid flash from a great tuner and that'll be the safest option as well.

I would think the charge pipe / turbo side pipe would fit since its the exact same motor but dont quote me... I guess we have a bit of research to do... You could also look at the GFB DV+ that a bunch of us are running. That should definitely fit your vehicle. Sharpens throttle response a bit. |

Also - wouldnt hurt to get a drop in filter. There's also an air scoop available for F30 but not sure if it would work for F25.

Yeah, X3 28i upgrading isn't a big market like the F30s. Those guys are hardcore on their stock N55s and view the N20 as a gutless timing chain snapper. No CAI, FMIC/Charge pipe upgrades that I'm aware of in the aftermarket for the F25 N20. I'm amazed ER makes a catless DP thank god.
Maybe one of the sponsors on this forum can chime in and tweak their F30 FMIC and charge pipes to fit the X3? idk. |

Looking at the parts, I have a feeling that maybe the mounting would be the only "custom" thing to do. We share the same engine but a different FMIC/CPs. With that, if we could mount a 3 series in the right spot so that the 3 series CPs would connect up, that could be an option. Stage 2 would net you some stock N55 kills easily.

Thanks for helping me. I hope to one day post in some 13s in the speed thread! The N55 X3 seems to run around 14.2.
I coded out the auto start/stop with carly. I bought the car last year with 35k miles first thing I did. I checked with BMW and it's covered by warranty til 75k miles or such. |

Random thought and definitely not a performance upgrade but...
Do you have black kidney grilles yet? I think a set of those with black exhaust tips would be a nice, classy touch. Both can be had for about a hundred dollar bill. |

They're silver, and honestly I'm going to keep em that way. Matches the rims. The exhaust tips are factory black chrome. I wonder if aftermarket F30 tips would slip on??
I'm really hesitant on doing anything with the exhaust but a little noise wouldn't hurt. Is removing the resonator noticeable? Seems like I can pay an exhaust shop $40 to cut it out and weld in a pipe. |

This is a really interesting thread. The demographic of people that modify X3s is small, like we realized with FMIC/Chargepipe issue, that's going to be your biggest limiting factor. That said, you can still get a flash tune (I always recommend BM3 ) , catless DP and see if you can't fit an F3x FMIC in there. That would be considered stage 2, and would have you whooping N55 X3s.

Looks like someone had luck with an FMIC on an F25: https://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1355232
Took a bit of custom fab work, but doesn't look like anything a decent shop couldn't handle.
