Only Hartge H50 - S85 V10 E90 3-Series in U.S. is up for sale

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Those with long memories may remember back in 2006, Hartge stuck the S85 V10 from the M5 into the [then brand new] E90 3-Series chassis and sold it as the Hartge H50 V10.

Hartge had, by then, long been creating BMW hot rods by swapping in larger engines into smaller cars; the previous H50 was based on the E46, with a V8 engine from the E39 M5.

It is thought that no more than 10 E90s were given the Hartge H50 treatment worldwide.
Hartge later made an E92 counterpart, the H50 V10 Coupe.

I remember watching videos of this Frankenstein-mobile (driven by Tim Schrick).

Later, Turner Motorsport got their hands on one and posted it for sale for $105,000 USD.

Quote:
There is only 1 Hartge H50 in the United States and this is it. Less than 10 exist worldwide.

The H50 conversion package costs roughly $220,000 (new E90 325i included) and takes 7-8 weeks to complete (not including shipping time to Germany).

This car was built to be 100% legal in the United States. The HARTGE H50 Conversion is done at the highest quality of workmanship. All factory features are still functioning. All of the practical functionality of a stock BMW has not been compromised during its conversion. The OBD port and factory check engine lights function like stock.

"A 200-mph BMW 3 Series is one of those deviant cars that we're just happy to see from time to time. The fact that this one is every bit as easy to live with as the slightly more upmarket M5 makes it the ultimate sleeper." -- Edmunds Inside Line

"Beyond such shenanigans, everyday use is absolutely not out of the question. Just leave DTC on and Power off. The default setting for the seven-speed SMG III (pulled also from the E60) shift rhythm, however, is always at Level Five. For me, this is great since I do that anyway in either the M5 or M6. You can tell Hartge that you don't want full-time Level Five as the default, sure, but that would, in turn, make you a wuss." -- European Car

"On the plus side, the H50 has the practicality of a 3 Series, including four real seats, highway cruising capability and all the storage any human being could reasonably want from a 200-mph car. Hartge has dressed the interior with a new steering wheel and acres of carbon-fiber, although this is all optional. This 3,680-pound beast is effectively the M5 CSL-Lite that BMW says it simply cannot make." --Edmunds Inside Line

Fast forward to 2018, this H50 V10 makes an appearance on EAG's website, with a price tag of $59,990 USD. If my memory serves me right, this should be the same Hartge H50 that was sold by Turner Motorsport some years ago, meaning this is the only one in the US.

Other Hartge creations:
Hartge H1 5.0 - 1-Series with 5.0 V8 (S62 from E39 M5)

Now that is art. I've seen some S85 swaps but didn't know about Hartge. I always thought the problem with the M5 is it weighs too damn much. You've got to go back to the early '90s to find one under 4k lbs.

I noticed this car on EAG's site as well - very cool that there's one available. Loved this car when it came out...it sounds insane.

If I had to nitpick ...it's no faster than an E9x M3 and it needs an LCI conversion on the rear. And some xenons.

But it's definitely unique - I love this car!

The only one we should care about is the E39 V8 into the E46 3-series swap

Why is the 0-60mph slower than the stock E90 M3?

I love this..
I agree with posts above... all the money put into that e90 and all the money being asked for; halogens.
Mean as hell, nonetheless.

When these first came out, I couldn't believe they used a base model as the donor. No xenons, no H/K sound, no sport package, etc.

I'm sure it was to keep the price down, but when someone is contemplating a $200k bespoke 3 series, does $200k and $205k make a difference in their purchasing decision?

Furthermore, a 3rd pedal would have been a nice option as well.

I haven't read up on it yet, but damn: I had no idea it was an auto! (Edit: SMG... Yes, manual would be much better IMO)

I'm with you though. For me it's all or nothing. Either it's gotta be completely base and stripped down (weight), or loaded with all the features. I'm being hypercritical, but to me this car has an identity crisis.

I get it; some will say "that's not what this car is about." True. But still, when I drove the new M5 I was reminded that creature comforts/features and incredible performance are not mutually exclusive...

It's still crazy impressive though, and if I had a spare $60k kicking around, I'd probably check it out.

0-60 in 4.3 with 500 horsepower seems slow in a lightweight E90. A jb4 tuned N55 or N54 F30 or E90 can beat that time for a fraction of the cost of a V8 swap. Not much better than an M3 if that era if at all. Would be interested in the Z4 with a tuned v10.
