Bullshit race. If real, the M5 would have nailed the 1/4 mile, and the E63 S would have whopped the 1/2 mile. The Panny is not even close to the other 2. Coming from a guy who drove all 3.

Oh my, let me find my "like I care" face mask. Who really cars about the race of three titans? Tenths of seconds etc, none of us bought our cars (M5, Benz, Porsche, which ever) to race! If you are so possessed by the zero to 60 war, get your M5 a nice tune and then you'll be king of the hill again.

The guy who was driving the M5 obviously had no idea how to use the launch control correctly. But regardless at the end of the day all three of these vehicles are amazing. It comes down to which one fits you best. There is no wrong decision between the three in my opinion.

To be fair BMW should make the LC easier so that these so-call journalists and launch the car properly.

In any case it's so close that it's always going to be a driver's race. That is why you see M5 win some tests while E63s pull ahead in some other tests. I believe M5 still wins more test than E63s in head-to-head. Not sure why that's a "disappointment"?

And btw this is not a review, it's simply a drag race performed by 3 different drivers. In most "review" F90 M5 beats E63s by a slim margin.

Again, these drag races are meaningless. The cars are so close it all comes down to the driver. Why does BMW make Launch Control so hard to initiate? They do not want you to use it! That's why.

Although the Panamera E-Hybrid is extremely heavily, we can clearly see the benefits of a Performance Electric Hybrid drivetrain setup for doing drag races. E63S is a beast off the line, while the M5 is good too but is more the superior car on the racetrack than any of its direct competition. The next generation Gxx M5 may go hybrid as well, with the M Boss already stating that most M models will be Hybrid Electric by the year 2030. They just have to figure out how to keep the weight down. Then again, I still don't understand why the F90 M5 didn't get Carbon Core, maybe they're saving that tech for the Gxx M5?

I think with all things being equal (i.e. working launch control, experienced drivers, etc.) there should only be about a car length separating the M5 and E63S from a standing start to the 1/4 mile. Any win in excess is more a byproduct of error than it is of actual performance capabilities. I feel this video is another example of error vs. true performance capabilities.

From what I've seen the E63s gets off the line harder (probably due to higher launch RPM) but the M5's gearing enables it to hit 60mph faster. It keeps that advantage through the 1/4 mile and starts to loss ground at higher speeds in excess of 140mph.

I think the E63s' torque and gearing help it in roll races especially at high speeds.

Well said, living in NL and driving in Germany it is IMPOSSIBLE to drive like this day to day! My X6 m50D is far, far too powerful for even das autobahn. The other day I very, very quickly got to 140mph and too much traffic stopped that fun. Accelerating, who am I racing, on the way to work everywhere has limit AT 80 KPH. PS: I want an M5....!!!!

Ignoring everything else, that porsche launch is impressive. That is a big car to take off like that.

His ability to talk far exceeded his ability to hit the gas pedal. It looked how it would if I put my wife in the car and told me to give her best quarter mile time. Shes a real princess.

c'mon ,who cares about this kind of nonsense?
the segment of the population who buys M5s could care less if it's .00010 second slower/faster then the other 2.... just drive it and enjoy.... I know I do.

You will never get consistency from these guys. They gear the races to what they want the outcome to be....
