M2C CF interior

Why does the the cf interior look so different to the ones in the M3/M4?

It looks fake and cheap to me in comparison. (Is it fake?)

...wondering if I should've selected the black high-gloss one instead?

From what I understand, is that the CF that they use in the M2 has no residue to make it gloss (I'm not sure if that's 100%) but I do have some suspicion that it's fake.
But at the end of the day rather have the fake carbon then the gloss black trim since the gloss black will just get marked or fingerprints all over it.

I can’t stand the dry carbon on the m2. I’m either going to wait for wet carbon to be released aftermarket or maybe swap in brushed aluminum from the m240i.
Or perhaps a body shop could coat the dry trim with clear.

Not fake, its dry carbon fibre - which is actually more expensive to manufacture than wet carbon fibre (has less epoxy in it, and thus weighs less than wet carbon)

So although not as good looking as the glossy m3/4 interior - its more expensive

Thank you for the explanation. I feel a lot better about it now.

I actually love both, Carbon in the current M2 was exposed, loved the look.

In my 135i I changed my interior to Piano Black, looks nice and smooth.

What I couldn't get over was the chrome the I believe the black finish brings.

I think its called pearl chrome so it should be matte/brushed/beadblasted and not shiny chrome. In the configurator (taken with a grain of salt) it shows the same chrome accents on both the cf and black options.

Gotcha! Just wanted to play it safe, I read chrome and it's a no no for me.

The online configurator pics are deceiving!!

I’m with you - the exposed carbon is tacky looking, real or not.

Honestly, I’d happily opt for plain plastic.

(FYI, resin is used to have that slick surface and better look.)

I like the dry carbon better for interiors. In climates that have a lot of sunshine all that glossy material in the cabin reflects the sun causing glare. I hate piano black for the same reason, it also scratches easily. On the outside of the car I prefer gloss CF since it is easier to clean.

Strange, I feel the complete opposite and really like the dry CF...it has a tactile feel to it that the glossy just doesn't have. Also, it's actually MUCH easier/cheaper to make fake glossy CF than Dry. If only it wasn't such a pain to keep clean...

Dry carbon for sure. I think it looks great.

Why would anyone want a glossy interior? Reflections everywhere.

I loved the dry carbon. Especially with every cheap domestic brand doing knock off wet carbon fiber it doesn't feel as special. The dry carbon is awesome. Got tons of compliments on it too.

Yeah dry carbon far more exclusive, much more difficult to manufacture, and end product is stronger and lighter than the wet stuff.

Wet is cheap as chips to manufacture these days - so please, whatever you, do not ask anyone to try and make your dry carbon glossy!

Love the dry carbon fiber! Best interior feature of the m2. The less high glare surfaces in a car, the better

Yet it can easily get pulled and it's impossible to clean in the nooks and crannies. I'm going with the piano black with accents in gloss carbon fiber.

Glossy is tacky - sporty car interiors needs matte finishes.

Piano black for the win!

I remember from my Mini, it does scratch very easily but if you use the correct cloth, you can avoid that..

It looks very classy and rich.. And it's an BMW Individual option on the M4. Glad and surprise it's a free option in the US market. Don't knock 'till you try it..

Avoid using a dry cloth, even if its the softest microfiber on the planet. The lightest dust particles and dry cloth, equal micro scratches. Some kind of PPF will be the only way to keep it scratch free.
