Bulb failure codes??

Over the past few days my motor has been showing a bulb failure warning on the dash, after walking around the car and not being able to see a blown bulb, brake lights excluded as I was on my own, I noticed if I kept the button on the end of the OBC stalk depress while the bulb failure symbol was showing, after about 3 seconds this was displayed

CC-ID 134

So I wondering if this might be crossed referenced as to which bulb might be at fault, BTW is was one of the brake light bulbs which had a loose fit in the holder

Any Techy’s out there?

Just call the stealer and ask them what the code means.

Surely they see this all the time.

Of course I could do that, but I'm trying to start a topic on here, after all that's what a forum is

I had a bulb failure a few months back - drove me crazy because for the life of me I couldn't find see which one it was.

Turned out I wasn't going crazy and I didn't have any defective bulbs - the bulb carrier to the rear light cluster was faulty and was giving an untrue reading.

If you can't see a blown bulb my money is on the bulb carrier being deffective. When I raised this point back in Feb when it happened there were a few other members who had reported the same, so it seems to be a common(ish) fault on e92'S.

I've current got the "Right Rear Brake Light Bulb Failure" message.

All the bulbs are working fine. Need to book in for a warranty repair.

BMW has a SIB regards this issue:

I was just thinking safety first. A quick call to the stealer would have helped you to find the problem quickly whilst you wait for feedback on forum.

That's kind of you SK, but I have 3 others working

Seriously though, I wiggled the offending bulb in it's holder and so far no more problems, I was just interested to know what or even if the code I posted was related.

Apologies for hijacking the thread but I just contacted my local dealer with a bulb out fault code which is CC ID 88 even though all the bulbs are ok.

The dealers have never heard of it and wouldnt be able to tell me what the fault was until they plug it in to the diagnosis kit

I would have thought that with the ID number they should be able to look up the fault???

Maybe i'm being a bit naive??

Doh!

Maybe the stealers don't even know...

My guess is that the new apprentice is made to remove and reinsert all bulbs by hand.

LOL

*best homer voice *

"Light goes on, light goes off...
Light goes on, light goes off..."

Could be the FRM module - unfortunately that needs re-programming to the car as I found out...

I think Carlos had this too but it went away on it's own !

You're not hijacking nigpd,

Just how different two dealers can be.

I phone a BM dealer in Canterbury and ask about my recent bulb failure code on the OBD, person on the service desk couldn’t have been less helpful and not for the first time of asking a technical question and their reply was “no one was there who knew the answer to my question” even though they didn’t leave the phone to ask and suggested maybe I should ask the parts dept. Don’t bother thanks all the same.

I then phoned Ashford dealer, who are of the same dealer group and was put through to the workshop foreman, who was very helpful pleasant and even looked into another enquiry at the same time, he phoned me back with 10 minuets, in which time he’d investigated the possible problem, ordered the parts through their stores and offered to fit them in my lunch hour should I be passing. He confirmed it to be bulb holders rather than the bulb and said it was confined to the O/S and there had been a supply issue due to demand.

I feel like I want to inform the relevant dealer principles of each branch

I dont blame you wanting to contact the dealer principals.

All I wanted to do was to find out what the faulty part(s) is ahead of a service that's due imminently to then be able to organise the dealer to get any required parts in ahead of time.

That way I dont have to make two trips to the dealer, one trip to find out what the fault is, and one trip to fit the replacement part(s) and carry out the service.

In the meantime I've emailed BMW Customer Services to see if they can help

No problems.

Rarely, you'll come across a service technician who knows exactly what the issue is; for everyone else, you need to show them something in black & white, with 'BMW UK' printed on it somewhere.

It doesn't tie up with the bulb references in the BMW data, they range from 26 to 127.

It's a little worrying that the dealer doesn't know without being plugged into the car

Gary I was told by the dealer workshop foreman, that 134 was appertaining to the bulb holder and not the bulb

I had the big yellow bulb light up on the dash yesterday and today. I tried the useful tip of holding the OBC button in when the symbol is displayed, and I also get CC-ID 134 showing. I guess its a call to the dealers in the morning.

the dealer had to stick the key into the key reader to get the code deciphered for my CC-ID codes.

2 second job and bloomin' annoying that no-one knew at the dealer over the phone by looking up BMW data. Having to make the trek for something that should be readily available over the phone is a right pain
