Dealer Screwed UP!
I posted a few weeks ago that I was going to pick up my 330i from the dealer on the 28th. I get a call that morning saying that someone made a mistake and my car was shipped to Arizona and I'm in California.
The dealer was very upset about this error. I asked for my deposit back since they did not have my car. They offered to give me any 330 or 325 on the lot at invoice. I did not like any of the cars on the lot. (color, no navigation, comfort access, etc). I was kind of torn between the 3 series and the 5 series when I first started shopping. The dealer had a 525 on the lot with all the options that I wanted except for the xenon head lights. (I wish he had a 530 on the lot) To make a long story short I talked the dealer into giving me the car at invoice. They didn't want to give me the 5 series at invoice only the 3. After talking to the GM they let me have it. The only thing I am dissappointed in is the headlights. It takes an H7 Halogen bulb. I called the dealler to upgrade to the xenons and they told me it was very difficult and it would cost me 4,000 dollars. Can I buy the H7 bulb that has the bright white blue color? I hate this yellow color. Thanks |

The 330 would have been A LOT more fun than the heavier slower 525. The main thing is that you're happy.

Wow!! How many more days to wait for your car? If they gave you the other car at invoice makes it look like the car wasn't even in the US.

I basically had to wait for a new car to come. They didn't have a 530 or a 330 on the lot or anywhere close with the options I wanted. Black Metallic on black, comfort access, navigation, premium, sport package, and heated seats. My 330 was shipped to Arizona and sold to another customer.
This all happened at East Bay BMW in Pleasanton. Sales person is Mike. BTW, I was torn between the 3 series and the 5 series in the beginning. Even after I placed my order I was still thinking about the 5 series. I was driving my wife crazy. I think I made the right decision. |

sorry to hear about the mishap...
sounds kinda fishy though...shipped and sold by mistake that is some weird mix up. Well...at least you found something you like. Good luck!

Depends on your situation, but I too would have waited for the car, speced to my exacting requirements.
Would it not have taken a couple of days to 1 week to truck it over to your dealer? Anyway, the main thing is that you are happy so enjoy your new 525 at what seems to be a great price.

I don't see where the OP said it was actually sold to another customer, just shipped to AZ. If it was just a shipping mistake, I would have waited for them to truck it back (making them use a covered truck and not putting a single mile on it). Then I would have made them give me tons of freebies. If it was in fact sold to someone else, I think I would go ballistic.
Good luck with the 5 Series, since it sounds like you wanted that anyway.

it almost seems like someone in AZ was willing to pay a hefty premium over invoice just to get a car with your specs without having to wait for it. that would also explain why it was re-sold so fast. you know how dealers call around and look for cars that match your specs to possibly get it to you sooner? i think that's what happened and your dealership must have had a good deal of profit off of it too.
i'd be gone from there and spread the word to all my friends...

Congratulations on your 5 Series.
I for one an not a conspiracy theorist and would recommend you think twice before leaping to conclusions based upon mere speculation. After all, the dealer did accomodate you and gave you a good price on another car. While it is possible that indeed there was no mistake and another dealer made off with your car for nother customer who paid over invoice, in the end I would choose not to presume bad faith. After all you are happy with the car that you were considering to beginn with. |

You Canadians are always giving people the benefit of the doubt. You'll never achieve world domination if you keep up that attitude!

Vlad is right, another dealer (the one in AZ) offered big $ to get his (bout2k's) car because he (AZ dealer) had a hot buyer, or some big problem came up that he had to solve.
The CA dealer made out well selling a 525. Sounds like everyone ended up happy except for E90Post, because we now stand to lose bout2k to the E60post list... |

True enough. I'm glad it seems to have worked out for him, it's just scary that a dealer can "trade" a preordered sold vehicle. Probably wound up in Snotsdale.
