need recommendations for visiting malibu!

A couple friends and I are planning to visit Malibu this weekend. I was wondering if any locals can provide some tips.

Specific things I am looking for

1) What are the cross streets for good beaches to visit. Convenient/relatively inexpensive parking is important.

2) What are some good restaurants to hit up after an afternoon at the beach. Again, probably mid priced, nothing fancy, we will probably a little wet and sandy after hitting the beach.

Thanks in advance!

For good and cheap seafood (i.e. fish and chips, shrimp, etc...) check out a small hole in the wall place north of Pepperdine University called Malibu Seafood and Fish Market (I think that's what it's called). Pepperdine is off of PCH and Malibu Canyon Road. Go up north about 1.5 miles and it's on the right hand side. Great place to just chill for lunch, on their patio and enjoy the breeze and waves.

I used to goto the beach area on the corner of Coastline and PCH. I forget what I parked but I don't think I spent much...

Great minds think alike.

I just went there today. I go there about once a week for lunch during the weekdays.

Also, one of the cheapest places to eat in Malibu is the KFC just south of Pepperdine.

Sometimes I goto Howdy's Taqueria at 3835 Cross Creek Rd #3 Malibu 90265
Btwn Civic Center Way & Pacific Coast Hwy. There's a small shopping center that you can chill at. It's not the cheapest Mexican restaurant but it's good eats. You eat outdoors. Simple place.

i frequent santa monica near the pier when i go to the beach (which isn't very often considering the cost of gas) parking runs between 8 and 10 bucks i believe, i'd imagine zuma would be right around there, maybe a bit more expensive because of the demographics of that area

+1 on Malibu Seafood. I go there once a week Clam Chowder w/ Fish & Chips!!

As far as beaches go, I would go to Zuma. Probably be the easiest for you to get to, its huge, and parking is $7 for the whole day if you can't find a spot on the PCH.

You did not seriously recommend eating KFC in Malibu..that's like going to Japan to eat Mossburger or McDonald's...

No mention of Pacific Cove Cafe? It's right on the beach and great views.

+1,000,000 this is the best advice given yet. THE REPAVE SUCKS! I would avoid PCH this weekend if possible.
I live just past Zuma and its going to be crazy this weekend. Just get there before noon and it will be A LOT easier. Shell out the cash for parking and head all the way down in the lot, there are fewer people the farther north you go up the Zuma Beach lot.
Malibu seafood is always packed on the weekends, its a place for tourists, but its good!

Enjoy and DRIVE SAFE!

Paradise Cove Beach Cafe, shit food for tourists that want to eat at the beach

As far as some restaurants that arent too expensive the above suggestions are good. Malibu is overrun with Italian food. At the corner of PCH and Kanan Dume Rd. there is Sage Room, good food and a more low-key, small/local atmosphere.

You just need to know when and when not to go, 11-12:30 should be a minimal to no wait to order with about a 10 minute wait for your food, between 12:30 and 5pm all hell breaks loose though! The wait to order can be anywhere from 5-20 minutes and getting your food can take 30 minutes some times. I stick to 11:30am or 6:00pm for my dining hours...canyons are less populated during the mornings tho

Not to mention that its the start of summer, be prepared for tourist rush as mentioned and the highschool kids who are out of school

I'll vouch for this. I went there the other day and it was AMAZING! You can come in your bathing-suite being somewhat sandy and wet too because seating is outside and you can shop around the small center afterwards.

I believe charterhouse is a little too fancy for after the beach. Maybe after you go to the hotel or house and shower...
