Early brake change questions
Hello, I have a 2012 F30 335i (Sport Line) and I'm having some serious brake judder in the front that is driving me crazy so I want to go ahead and change my front pads and rotors even though the car estimates I have 13k left. I have no issues changing brakes, I did it on my 2009 328i and just about every other car I've owned and I think the BMW was the easiest one yet, I just have a couple quick questions.
On my 328 it made me change the front and rear brakes before it would let me reset the indicators, even though the rear brakes were fine. I don't want to change my rear brakes they have 42,000 miles left and the rotors aren't warped. Will I have this same issue? If so should I just buy a sensor for the rear and change it? Are these cars bad about warping the rotors? I haven't driven through water with hot brakes in fact I rarely drive the car in the rain. I don't do anything to get the brakes super hot. I know people say OEM pads are good but if there is an issue with stock rotors is there another one I should look at? Keep in mind I don't want to spend a bunch of cash, I don't need bigger brakes I just want to step on my brakes without the steering wheel shaking for the life of the pads. |

Since you didn't get a dash warning you shouldn't have any problem with the reset. The 'miles remaining' is an estimate, and not a very good one at that. My experience:

They do cover brake pads as wear and tear they didn't give me grief. Did you buy your car CPO or new? Depending when you brought it the maintenance may or may not be transferable.

Pads are covered by the maintenance agreement, and so are rotors if they're out of spec. If not out of spec and the dealer has the ability to resurface them they're supposed to, otherwise the job is only half done. If they don't have a rotor turning lathe they pretty much have to replace the rotors too.

My car is a 2012, its out of standard warranty and maintenance but still covered by the extended warranty.
Mentioning you got it fixed under the maintenance contract is a little bit different. |
