M2C at Caffeine and Carburetors

BMW was featured today at the Caffeine and Carburetors event in New Canaan. An M2C showed up. Thought some might enjoy a couple of quick phone pics.

I can't tell if it's white or " silver " but will guess the latter

Nice to see one out in the wild but it's kinda put me off HS with Orange stitch... and wonder why the M decals on the calipers have black tape over them?

Yep. Hockenheim Silver. I liked it very much. It has almost a grey tone to it.

The car was a preproduction unit, and we were told it was camouflaged for the ride in from NJ. The driver allowed people to look but not touch. I heard one person ask to sit in it, the driver politely said no, due to being a preproduction car.

Open hood picture...

The interior shot is making me rethink my choice of blue stitching, the orange looks pretty good there.

Seeing it in person, I had the opposite thoughts. If it was red stitching maybe, but orange? Also keep in mind it's not just the stitching, it's also the inserts. Just wasn't making it for me. I had selected HS with orange stitching, but now I'm changing my mind - even though my current car has blue.

I was most surprised that HS took a very gray look for me. In all the pics I've seen it looked white. In person, it definitely did not seem white. It was lighter than, but really took the appearance of, nardo gray. You see the metal flakes in the sun, but standing away from it, the appearance was a pale gray.

I was there but at the front of the car when it started. Could barely hear that it was running. Boy, sure sounds like crap in the video.

I was also at the show. Very cool and surprising that BMW decided to bring the car there (I think this is the first time it's been seen in the US?).

The car looked very different to me than the BMW press pictures that make it look white and the grill look huge. The color changes quite a bit in the sun, but is definitely a silver/grey and not white. The front fascia looks much better in person than in photos, and I actually thought the orange stitching looked good too. Overall, looking forward to reviews of the car in the next few months.

The problem with videos are that it's soo hard to capture audio because most of the time it just gets distorted hence why it sounds like crap.

I find that quite interesting cause I swear that the S55 are quite loud when they start up?? What I'm hoping for is the M performance will sound better, or at least they'll be arkaprovic to go to as I have faith in them to make the M2 comp sound good. The only problem with the S55 is that it will always have the sound of a blocked radiator on cold start which eventually passes so that doesn't really bother me to much.

Agreed with everyone on the sound, but I think the S55 sounds much better with a simple midpipe. Check out this F80 M3 with an Active Autowerke midpipe and an otherwise stock exhaust. I know this is an M3, but I'm hopeful that we can get something similar for the M2C.

I think it sounds much, much better than the raspy lawnmower stock S55 sound. According to Active Autowerke's dyno, it also added 18 WHP and 30 LB FT of torque and shaved off a few pounds. I think part of the gain is because M3 and M4 S55 applications have secondary cats (AFTER the O2 sensor, so no CEL issue ) that the midpipe eliminates. I'm assuming the M2C will have the same.

You can probably have a custom muffler shop make something similar if you want to save some money, too.

Seems like the perfect first mod because it checks off multiple boxes: Add 18 horsepower/30 lb-ft, make the car sound great, and lose a few pounds.

I wonder who will be the first person to use a sharpie to black out the perforations on the seats.
