Who has the most powerful XI?

Not this weekend but next I'm gonna get back to the dyno where i put down 327whp / 365wtq with just procede V2 (this is a dyno dynamic dyno).

Now I have catless downpipes, catless exhaust, dual cone intakes, and procede v3... I think i'll definitely make upwards of 360...370whp and 400wtq. Which will be nice numbers on a dyno dynamic dyno (since it reads 15-20% lower than dynojets).

I can't wait

Very impressive, and since I want to keep my warranty, no performance mods so far

I know this has been beaten to death, but a dual cone intake in a hot day seems like a bad idea to me?

Very impressive, that's some serious power.
No love for the 330xi from the aftermarket performance stores since the car came out only one year. I will be shredding the road with 255hp for now. Just got a Remus powersound. Not installed yet since I'm in the middle of the dessert.

The restriction of the stock airbox is a major issue when you get to the power levels I'm at. Dual cone intakes are the best option. Those restriction issues FAR outweigh the warm air the intake brings in. Sitting around in traffic the dual cone's bring in warmer air, but when you get up to speed (when it actually matters) the temp's drop to the same levels that the stock airbox would have

Plus, in the end the FMIC is the important part for cool air.

I see. I think I'm too wimpy to go for the dual cone setup, probably will settle for something much safer

*sigh* I know what you mean, we got the bastard child of the E90 lineup. Out of 255hp a 330i auto at the very most will put 215hp to the ground, our xi's even less, then there you 335xi guys are with upwards of 350whp!

I honestly would like an oem performance exhaust at the very least. I know there's alot of stuff out there but I've had problems with my previous Infiniti's custom set-up and the police giving me $110 tickets so I'd rather steer clear of the aftermarket for that. They still sell the 330i in Europe and Asia, so I imagine there should still be a market for such an exhaust as I'm certain BMW would only offer it if they see the potential to make a profit.

How are your H&R springs doing? I was on the verge of buying a set but then was worried that the stock shocks may have trouble keeping the car from bouncing more than it should over bumps.

too wimpy? whaaa? What's unsafe about it....the install is easy, everything looks solid. Check out my review http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=151238

It's cheap and I really see no way of it being "unsafe." I mean, it's not like your exposing your intake to water or anything. Yes you're getting HOT air but whatever...

I'm just expressing my thoughts that the open intakes are not for me. Coming from a supercharged car (the AMG s/c'ed 5.5L M113), we pulled almost all our hairs out trying to lower the IAT to maximize HP gain. I just couldn't understand the theory of these open intakes made for the N54 engines. I'm simply posing a question and when I got the answer, I expressed my own personal opinion that I would go for a route that I considered safer, a route that I know would keep the IAT low but still increase air flow (alas, GruppeM). No where in this thread have I ever said that open intakes are "UNSAFE". Please don't put your words into my mouth. Thank you.

Hey Kev didn't mean to insult. I guess I was understanding "I'm too wimpy" as I'm worried about something going wrong...i.e. unsafe

You're completely entitled to you opinion and hell it's your car, I was just trying to give you a friendly bump as that usually helps people (myself especially) get over feelings of "too wimpy." I can see where you're coming from with the IAT bit and it probably would make more sense to do a GruppeM or a CAI, but....I like my hot air intake

I'm actually having a hard time understanding that AMG's supercharger...so it has an intercooler built in and puts out low boost. That makes sense and looks very safe. Were you having a hard time with IAT because of the intercooler not being able to reduce temps enough or what was the cause..? It seems our intercoolers can control air temps very well and especially if you go the aftermarket route...thus the reason I went with hot air, until I'm pushing my intercooler I personally don't need it.

The "wimp" part refers to the moodiness of my car. In the past month or so, my car visited the dealership for 3 different times, each time they found a module blown some where in the car. So, naturally, I'm a little more cautious about what I do to my car, coz I don't want it to die on me.

I guess if you have a very efficient FMIC upgrade like Helix, AA, or Dinan, you could probably get away with the open intakes. I think even for turbocharged cars with FMIC, the IAT is still an important factor in making power, so I'm going for a RAM air design to bring in as much cold air as possible, without altering to much of the intake mechanism.

As for the S/C'ed M113, there is no separate FMIC in the unit and the s/c is cooled by integrated cooling circuit, which renders it fairly inefficient. Heat soaking is major theme on these cars, as well as high IAT. We also have limp modes on car, where our S/C will disengage (the S/C has a clutch so it's not always running) at an IAT >199F. The heat soak part can be dealt with by replacing the water pump with a more efficient one, and Evosport as well as VRP Tuning also developed an auxiliary cooler for the engine:

http://www.evosport.com/product/prod...ER.M5K.PPC.211

People attempted to run the engine with two K&N cone filters attached to the charge pipes, but they actually end up losing power instead. That's why we were pulling our hairs out to try to find a solution for the intake situation. The separate heat exchanger helped with lowering the IAT quite a bit. For increase flow, you can either go for the GruppeM intake, or you can settle for a more reasonable alternative, the VRP carbon intake.
