Dear James,

thank you very much for contacting us and your interest in our LIQUI MOLY products.

The LIQUI MOLY Longtime High Tech SAE 5W-30 and the LIQUI MOLY Special Tec LL SAE 5W-30 are both fully synthetic based but with completely different ingredients and so as a result different specifications.

Our Longtime High Tech is a so called "low-SAPS" formulation and mainly used in diesel vehicles equipped with a diesel particulate filter (dpf) system. It has the BMW approval LL-04 which is not allowed to use in BMW / Mini gasoline fired engines outside central Europe - so no choice for your E92.

The Special Tec LL is a "full-SAPS" formulation, mainly suitable for the use in gasoline fired engines and not suitable for diesel vehiclkes with a dpf system. It is BMW LL-01 factory approved which is the valid approval for your car. Thatīs the oil we recommend you to use in your BMW !

I asked the same question via facebook

Use the Longtime High Tech 5W-30. This one has the official manufacturer approval Longlife 04 ,which is required for your car.

Which is it?

I know ll04 is the new standard. I have e92 2011 328i. Going with either or i should have no issues?

On their site you got a pretty nice guide

https://products.liqui-moly.com/olys...a8184b2522d188

If you click on Special Tech LL 5W30, on the right side it says it is good for gasoline and diesel engines and it LL-01 approved.

You need to use LL01 Oil if you're using North American gasoline.
