G05 xDrive50i -> xDrive M50i Engine Change
I have read some comments indicating that the launch version N63 (456 hp) engine in the 2019 X5 (G05) xDrive50i will be replaced with a new 530 hp engine and become the X5 M50i. This new engine will be for both the G05 and G07. Does anybody know what this is about? When would such a change occur?

Really curious of the 0-60 with the new 6 cyl. It does around 4.6 sec in the 2018 X3, I think it was around 5.8 with the old 6. I'm guessing it will do around 5.2 in the new G05 which is getting much closer to the 8.

I would've loved to see a HP bump to 530 but the current upgrade is decent I guess.
- Fundamentally upgraded from crankcase to engine management - Hot-V design - New ignition system for even smoother Auto Start Stop |

Can anybody confirm the G05 M50i 523hp setup is coming in 2020? Will be watching this closely.

It gets the engine from the M850i.

I'm sure you know this but its not exactly the same as in the X3. The X3 has 20hp more (355hp) in a car that weighs much less than the X5.

I don’t think g05 will get new v8 engine until LCI. Consider e70 x5 never gets the update N63tu engine, And f15 x5 doesn’t get n63tu2 either. BMW seems to have the tradition to not give x5 lineup new engine until some other major changes.

So you really think the X5 will be the only car without an M Performance model?

Just for clarification, is the thought that MY 2020 X5 will be offered in 3 V8's? 50i, M50i and X5M? Or will the M50i totally replace the current MY 2019 50i? I'm asking because I'd like to get the off-road package which requires going xLine and not M Sport design. It's very confusing!

The reality is that there has been no official announcement that I'm aware of from BMW confirming that there will even be an M50i version (though I could certainly see them doing that given where they've been going on other models) or that it will have the same engine / tune as the M850i. Everything I've seen is simply quoting "sources".
I just don't see BMW having that big of a gap between the 40i and M50i in terms of power (i.e., 188 HP and 220 ft. lbs. of torque) without a significant price increase and then also have a large enough gap between the M50i and the next gen X5 M. Since the N63 in the G05 50i has an "M" power output class (medium output) and the N63 in the M850i has a "T" power output class (top output), I think it is more likely that the M50i (if it happens) would get an "O" power output class (upper output) which would be right in the middle of the two if they are truly replacing the 50i with the M50i altogether. Another "confirmation" that the M50i is coming soon. In the ETK the logos already have the M50i logo as a preview.
