Adaptive headlights?

Do they look any different than the standard ones? Im trying to find comparisons but the internet is failing me.

I live in CA so everything on tbe executive package seems useless? Anyone know the benefits of adaptive headlights? Is that the same thing as daylight running lights that turn on automatically?

Do you guys think this option is worth it living in CA? Heated steering wheel just gets me lol.

I've been looking at this detail as well. I'm almost 100% sure at this point that if you don't select the Executive package, you will get the headlights that are currently on the 2016/17 M2. The updated headlights found on the 2018 M2 and upcoming Comp are an Executive Package exclusive.

Smart move on their part hooking you into a package you only want one piece of...

Same question here. I don't care about a heated steering wheel in So Cal or really any of the other features. I penciled it in for my build but if the headlights look the same, but don't swivel, I'll probably cut it out of my build.

My understanding is that both options feature the 'new' more angular looking lights, as opposed to the rounder 'old' lights - this is whether you opt for the exec pack or not.

Main difference is the lights ability to swivel and adjust to provide better lighting as shown in the above video.

They do look different - the standard LEDs have the old-style round rings, while the adaptive LEDs have the 3/4 angular surround 'rings'.

There are some benefits beyond just swiveling into turns - the adaptive lights automatically reduce certain beams in oncoming traffic, though a number of these other "adaptive" behaviors are not operational on US cars. There was a neat little video somewhere on here that had an animation showing how the various adaptive features work (note: it wasn't the same as the video above - it was a different one).

They don't look the same at all, so if you like the 'angular' headlight surround look, you should keep the Exec Pkg in your build - at least the cost is down from $1550 to $1200 if you don't care about other features in the Exec Pkg.

You don't get the 16/17 M2 xenon headlights if you skip the Exec Pkg on a new M2, and the units do look slightly different if you see both of them up close, but the standard LED headlights DO indeed have the nearly identical round corona rings of the 16/17 headlights.

This is incorrect - there are pictures buried on here somewhere that illustrate the standard LED lights, but I don't recall where I saw them. The standard LED lights do NOT have the angular-style 3/4 headlight rings - they have a full round ring, very close to the previous xenon lights from 16/17.

You should get the exec pack if you care about the following:

1. Better looking headlights and angel eyes

2. The ability to code in VLD/GFHB - (super helpful at night)

3. High/low beams that move in the direction you turn the wheel

4. Rear PDC for parallel parking

5. Wireless changing for your phone

PDC (Front & Rear) is standard on the M2c and not part of the executive package anymore.

Good catch.

I would still do exec pack just for the angel eyes and headlight design alone. The non adaptive LED's are such an eye sore IMO.

The Ex pack also gives you 'wireless charger,' which includes an extra high-speed 2.4V 3.0 USB outlet by the cupholder. Charges an iPhone X in full, less than an hour with such outlet.

Sounds minor but it's convenient.

Is the second usb outlet in the arm rest not 2.4V?

From what I understand the adaptive LED headlights are higher wattage compared to the standard halo LED lights of you care about ultimate brightness. This is one of those decisions that you have to get right before you take delivery as it would cost considerably more later if you attempt to retrofit as the package is a bit of a bargain if you price out the hardware individually.

In the MY2018 and below they both where 2.4A only if you get the wireless charging option.

If you don't get the wireless charging option, it's .5A and just one outlet in the center console.

Although some claim they could change center console USB to 2.4A with coding, I can't find the parameters on my 2016 (older software). Maybe on other MY or newer software update you can.

Isn't BMW moving to USB-C, could the 2019 M2 have it? The new X5 has USB-C in center armrest. 2019 X3(minus s-drives on lots right now) will have USB-C.

That's new to me but it would be great for a USB-C upgrade.

More details in this thread. It appears that assuming the US delivered cars are similar to ROW in terms of adaptive LED headlight hardware is incorrect (i.e. missing shutters, so be careful what you code on expecting to work like ROW version)?

I have a 2019 M2C without exec pkg, so no ahls. I am looking to buy a pair and drop them in and code them. Anyone know where I can source some reasonably priced ones?
