Laser Lights in USA?

Is it safe to assume that we'll be seeing the Laser Lights in the US?

I know the Audi R8 comes with Laser Lights in the US, but my guess is if we get it, it will be crippled down version similar to the current adaptive LED.

I'd like to hear more about laser lights and their functionality.

... and why they're having problems with DOT certification, apparently.

I'm assuming what we'll get are LED lights with the Laser High Beam and not full adaptive laser matrix lights. The issue is similar as previously with the adaptive high beams. In the US it's either on or off and not the anti-glare / anti-dazzle high beam like in Europe.

I'm sure they can be coded to work in the US.

Great find, thanks, foldpages!

Interesting, the roadblock of two different sources of light required for low and high beams in US.

You guys think this could be changed with coding? If the vehicle is designed to use LED for low beams, and laser for high beams (or vice versa), would software really be able to make the vehicle use laser for both? That seems more like a hardware design to me.

r8 laser light is high beam only. pretty pointless right now unless you're really rural.

Based on the German dealer ordering guide it's the same here. Adaptive LED lights with a Laser High Beam.

So in looking at Palbay Real World Pics a little more closely: http://g05.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1508746
I'm a bit underwhelmed by what is likely the standard adaptive LED headlights/DRL. The DRLs do not appear to come close to representing the iconic halos. Sorta reminds me of the sad standard halogen headlight/DRL on the F30...I wanted to avoid wasting money on the laser lights...hopefully those pics are for another market--don't see our ugly DOT front amber reflectors???

Those lights that only have the bottom part are the basic full LED lights indeed. However it seems as though there are not one but two possible upgrades: the first upgrade gets matrix full LED lights with the iconic hexagonal corona rings, the further upgrade gets the same hexagonal corona rings but the actual lights are switched to laser and have that blue X thingy sticking out. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Nahhhh that $3k option price tag was reserved for the almost $4k Off Road Package BMW is adding on to a sport utility vehicle that, by its fundamental design, should already be an off road vehicle.
