Summer tire change

I have posted in the wheel and tire section with no luck..

I just got my summer tires put on today, (I know its mid june) haha.. anyway I am really concerned because I drove off of the STS tire center and noticed a severe shake when accelerating and braking... I roll my right side mirror down to see my back right wheel not fully torqued on!!!! I took it right back after driving literally down the block not more than 2 minutes, they re torqued all of the rims and apologized out the ass and what not, my concern is...

could this have caused any permanent damage to any part of the car?

That is absolutely unbelievable. They're damn lucky, actually, that you didn't wreck and subsequently sue them for everything they're worth. It really just furthers the point that most people you do business with these days are incompetent and should be removed from their jobs and/or shot.

I wouldn't worry about any damage to anything except possibly the wheels or the hubs/rotors. Did you inspect everything upon bringing the car back. I would have personally stood there and probably demanded to use the torque wrench myself.

I inspected it pretty well, and i demanded that he check each of the other rims, and I even had him manually torque them down with a lug nut extender to get some extra leverage... I do agree were both lucky nothing bad happened.. The car drives fine after the wheel was properly tightened and thus not wobbling.. freakin morons i was livid!

I've never trusted anybody to torque my wheels down properly so I always re-troque them afterward, and I have found all sort of overtorque and undertorque situations when I checked. Buy a torque wrench, it's worth the investment.

Stay away from STS, Just Tires, etc. Most of the mechanics don't know what they're doing. Find an Indie you can trust and stick w/him.

Unlikely you did any damage to the car based on your description, but damn, that was close. It could have been much worse: http://www.break.com/index/when-drifting-goes-bad.html

non BMW related, but on my old TL, they tightened the lugs so damn tight it warped brand new rotors within a few days.
another similar experience, on my old MB C320, they tightened the lugs so much 2 of them broke off with the studs!
idiots everywhere lol.
