painted my tow hook
I didn't want to spend on one of those $100 tow hooks, but the stock towing eye just doesn't look fast enough!
So I went ahead and painted it with some materials I had around from a previous project. I'm not particularly skilled at spray painting but it turned out well enough for my purposes that I went ahead and did a second one. Some tracks around me want tow points on both ends of the car. IMHO it's too big to leave in full time (and that's not my style anyway), but I think it'll look nice when I'm at the track. Anyway, this was super easy and leaves me more $$ in my budget for track days (gotta work on that driver mod). If folks are interested I can put together a mini DIY. Looks good! The trick is to order an F82/F83 tow loop. It's hollow and aluminum (about 1/3 the weight of M2 unit). Saves about 5 oz maybe? Every bit helps!

I did the same with my e36 tow hooks.
Some of the paint rubbed off when they were pulling me out of the sand |

I thought the point of using a strap was so you don't do as much damage to whatever object you hit? But good idea, I may have to do mine!

I actually had this happen once—not a scratch on my car even though he hit me hard enough to spin me around, and the hook took out one of his front tires and broke his suspension. Last edited by ZM2; 06-20-2018 at 07:43 PM.. |

Anyone who drives on the street with tow hooks attached is bling bling…
IQ lower than a bag of hammers. Hopefully none of you do...
