I'm bought a used z4, but the replacement key doesn't communicate with the car.....

The previous owner tried selling the car to someone else, but the guy lost the original key so he replaced it with another one. The new one's buttons don't unlock or lock the vehicle. The guy told me I can take it to the dealer and they can get it to work. Is this true? Is there a way to do it myself?

WHS. That should work. Mine goes out of whack every now and then and the reset procedure works every time.

Awesome, thanks epbrown. As soon as I pick it up I will try the procedure. I have to drive my mini back home then fly down to pick up car.

Also, I read somewhere that I can't change the HU if it has a premium sound system because the amp won't work with aftermarket HU. Maybe I should start a separate post, but just incase you guys know already.

I've never upgraded a head unit in my life - hell, I don't think I've turned on my stereo in a week - but I've read the same. Apparently the DSP amp routes signals in a non-standard way.

I tried that procedure, but my key has a lock/unlock button and a trunk button. The procedure says while holding the lock button to hit the unlock button three times. Do I use the trunk button as the unlock?
