Steering clunk noise come and gone

So my F34 335XI has 51k miles now and it has developed a steering clunk noise especially on full lock, the problem happened within the warranty period but the first attempt by the dealer was unsuccessful.

I had scheduled another inspection and they said they will try to push the problem back into the warranty period. I'm suppose to drop off my car tonight but the noise is now gone!

I suspect it had something to do with the temperature since it shot up just around these last 2 days and parking the car under sunlight certainly warms it up. So now I'm just wondering would we be able to narrow the cause down since it might be temperature related and I'm super not confident that they would be able to find what's wrong.

I've just been told I need to replace my steering rack, started with symptoms you describe, then gradually worsened.
Doesn't mean you have the same issue (hopefully) but that could be a lead.

Hopefully not , I've read some people experienced the problem coming back despite changing the rack, and some fixed it with a simple re torque. Did the dealer tell you why they need to replace it?

Thx
