On a side note, I remember when this was first raised on the forum and some of those with keyless entry, either said it could not happen or would be very rare. I think it is ramping up to similar proportions to the key cloning on E9x, which at one point was a car a day being stolen. I would how they feel now? |

That point is the most annoying one, there is nothing stopping BMW adding a software update with Comfort as a box tick on / off option.
The entire car industry have done nothing to prevent car thefts, all reliance is placed on door locks and immobilisers. BMW need to carry out a full review of logical and physical security and start implementing some proper theft deterrent rather than Comfort access which seems to be a theft magnet. |

They really need to look at the competition and see what they have done to work around the issue. It's almost certainly a software fix but either way they owe it to customers.
Whilst they're working on the software update they need to allow coding of the alarm to set off the horn AND the alarm. Even a few blasts of the horn would be far more effective than the beepy shit that the car has. Whilst someone is at it they could code it so you need a password to turn off GPS tracking. Turn it on, sure. Turn it off, ask for a code. That should be super duper mega easy. when they've got the laptop out they could spend a little whilst on geo-fencing. Other manufacturers have it. Why in hell can't they do this. I can tell my car to start the fans at X time. Why not have it let you set a time when you dont expect it to move. Say midnight until 5am. It'd be super easy to do. |
