Rattling mppsk
Picked up my 340i touring with mppsk today, sounds absolutely fantastic, cant believe bmw ever signed off a system this loud. Anyway its rattling.... heard this is fairly common but typically bmw can't fit me in to check it out.
Anyone had the rattle? How was it resolved. |

I tried, they are being very stubborn. I would have expected to be able to pop in tomorrow morning and get it sorted in half an hour. I would have turned around and taken it back but i was in a rush.

Mine rattled really really badly when I picked it up. I almost turned around to take it back. Instead I "turned around" and saw the stoplock on the back seat rattling away with the rumble. |

Mine had a very pronounced clatter that sounded like the dry clutch on a Ducati. The MPPSK was port installed on my 2018 440i and, after reading some of the posts, I just assumed "they all did that."
When it was in for other service, one of the tech thought something was amiss, so he asked me to leave it for a day. After some checking, he found the butterfly valve on the right side was just flapping on the center post, instead of opening and closing as designed. They eventually replaced the exhaust. I would start by peering into the ends of the exhaust tips with the engine switched off. Gently poke the valves with a screwdriver to see if there is resistance, or if they're flapping loose like mine was. |

Take it back it's a well known fault with installation.

When we had the problem with ours, I emailed the link from this site to the service department. Also - do you have BMW Assist? If so, just ring them and get them to collect the car - the dealership will have to take it in and you’ll get a hire car dropped off to you.

I will try, not really the weather for it today. The merino seats are so nice they really elevate the cabin as does the digital dash. I know its not as functional as the audi one but it looks so cool. Got the m performance carbon trim which i have always liked and is fairly cheap these days. Really happy with the car, mppsk is the star of the show, sounds brutal. Just makes it so fun to drive, even at 25mph its a great laugh.

It'll be the exhaust hitting the heat shield studs under the drivers seat. They just need trimming down. Common miss when installing surprisingly but simple enough to sort

Yeah mine only made a noise when it was either really hot, driving over those rumble strips approaching a roundabout or reversing onto my drive. Took it in and showed the technician a picture of the known problem and since then its been fine

Had the same issue when I first had it installed in Sept 2016 and is easily fixed.
Don't let it cloud you enjoyment of the MPPK

Oh im not! Car is brilliant, i had a 340i as a courtesy while waiting for this one to be built and the combo of merino leather, digital dash and mppsk makes it feel like a totally different car.
