How Emissions Regulations Helped Create the BMW M2 Competition

Sorry if this has been posted / discussed, but thought it was interesting that
this article reports that "making the outgoing M2's 365-hp straight-six comply with Europe's stricter regulations would've required significant reengineering. The simpler solution? Stick the 3.0-liter twin-turbo straight six used in the current M3 and M4 under the hood instead."

Yes, we knew... it does not reduce the irony of stricter emission regulations, by pure chance, ending up “creating” one of the best bmw’s ever (on paper, so far, let’s see how it drives, but I suspect it will be one of the best M’s)

I touched on this in another thread, but that's all marketing bs. They knew in the very beginning it was going to be replaced by the s55. There were even test mules with camo production ready parts and s55 back in 2016.

The n55 was put in to not infringe on the m4 marketability at the time which had just announced the comp pack and was just getting it's LCI.
