How much are you Socal guys paying for insurance?

I got a quote from Liberty Mutual today and I think it was around 3k for the year. I can't figure out why it's so much. Do they look at records from over 10 years ago? I had a speeding ticket when I was 17 but I'm 29 now.

Norcal here, and was recently quoted just slightly over $1700/yr from Liberty Mutual. Farmers quoted me $2200 for the same coverage.

Insurance companies only count minor violations for 3 years, some count accidents for 5, and majors (dui's) 10 years. In LA I would start with AAA, then try 21st, and GEICO and see what they can do. Anywhere north of LA try GEICO, 21st, and Liberty Mutual. There is cheaper, but usually through brokers, and I wouldn't risk claims service on a car like this.

I'm currently with AAA. My quote with them was high 2k, closer to 3k. I don't understand it. Is it just me or does all of Southern California suffer from such high rates? I'll definitely be looking around for the best rates.

LA is one on most expensive cities in the US for insurance, although that does sound extremely high. I am with GEICO myself and quoted an m3 at $1200 a year. I am 26 with a clean driving record, but I am in San Diego, which is around 20% cheaper than LA. Mercury will be the cheapest if you call them, but they are only sold through brokers, and their claim service can be really hit or miss (I had a buddy who waited 4 weeks for a check for a simple vandalism claim, had another buddy who got a check the next day).

Doesn't hurt to shop around though, not every company is going to be the best for you, and it can vary from person to person. I would find the top 5 companies and just quote all of them.

If you have clean record, you should try to get in Mercury Prefered Customer Program. It's really cheap, but they only sold thru broker. I think AIS is one of the Mercury's broker. Try to give them a call and get a quote.

MERCURY is the best......I had three car insured full coverage for myself (35) and my wife (32) both with perfect driving records in Stockton CA (think #3 in the country for auto theft)....my insurance was $1800 a year for the 06 Acura TL, 02 Saturn SC2 and 88 Porsche 928S4....with the Saturn gone and the BMW replacing it it went up a whopping $10 a month....or about $1920 a year....... Sure the 6 year maybe $7k value saturn is high on the please steal me list...but a car thats worth $73k costs only $10 a month more to insure..... its hard to believe, but its true....

Not much of a catch. I get 10% off corporate discount, $1k deductible the coverage is high. I just have 3 cars and it's listed as a pleasure car.

kids Kids, please. I've been with WAWANESA insurance Company since 97, when I used to have the E36 M3. They paid two claims on that car-of course none were my fault. Really reliable company, and great customer service. I am paying 980 (annually), 300 deductible (only on one car), 100/300k on both vehicles, with towing, rental, uninsured motorist-not bad. Check them out online. They are located in San Diego, and the parent company is in Canada.

DITTO!
I have been with Wawanesa since 99. While I was out of the country, my wife almost totalled our '00 Z3. They responsed really quickly. When I got my '05 M3 ZCP, 28 married-clean record, it was 700/years. I am still waiting for the insurance for my E90, should be in the same ball park I figure.
