Big Brake Kit Installation

Question on the installation of the M Performance Brake Kit on my F30:
Some of the shops I've been asking to install this kit onto my car have said that coding is not necessary, is that true?

Some will say they have/have not coded.
I have not coded mine and it feels fine to me

What would you code? Maybe the VO, but as iDrive doesn't affect the operation of the brakes I don't see the need. There's nothing brake related in either the cheat sheets or the coding database.

Coding is to let the ABS know it's piston is now on a longer lever arm (farther out from the axle center because of the larger rotor/longer caliper carrier). Probably changes abs very minimally and that's why most can get away without coding the new calipers in.

So the consensus is that it's not necessary but would be nice to have coded?

I read in previous posts that for some people, if they didn't have it coded they had to put more force into the brake pedals to brake but others said otherwise so I'm just really confused. I don't track my car and use it purely for street driving if that matters.

not to start a long debate here, but if you're only street driving, why are you upgrading to a big brake kit? "because i want to" is a fine answer, but it's a lot of money to spend on something that doesn't need to be upgraded. you can significantly impact braking performance just by putting the right pads on.

Mainly for the looks to be honest. I got the whole kit for a pretty good deal from a BMW store on eBay. When looking at my car, the one thing that just makes me unhappy with the way it looks is the brake calipers and rotors.

I ordered mine a couple days ago through a dealership that I started talking to on eBay and got the kit + rear rotors for around 2100 usd. The only reason for this kit is for the looks. Brake works fine right now tbh, especially with the car having brand new rotor and pads on two of the wheels (dealership I bought the car from replaced them while doing their certified pre owned stuff).

I got mine for looks. I had the basic brake set-up before and my pads+rotors were due.

I drove a few days prior to coding and have been driving with them coded now for months.

Before and after coding - I've felt no difference. But the peace of mind is worth it. Proper process is to have them coded.

Coding is for 1) ABS and 2) Drying in wet conditions.

Would I code? If BMW Engineers didn't think it was important, why is it a standard process with a BBK upgrade?

Then again, how many put on fake front bumpers or M3 knock offs and do not consider what they are doing to the airflow (especially that to the front brakes that is never considered with fake bumpers). I'd do it right or not do it at all.

But that's just me....and hoping I'm not meeting the one who did it cheap as they are crashing into me.

Same can probably be said for upgrading an exhaust

is there a less expensive way to improve how the exhaust sounds? no (and i bought it used, thank you very much).

is there is a less expensive way to improve braking performance? yes.

i only asked him the question because many people think you have to go BBK to make your brakes better. lots of people don't recognize that people are racing cars on the factory caliper/rotor size. i wasn't trying to chastise the guy, obviously.

Understood, hence the ). My point was it is very relative. Some folks go for exhaust upgrades which provide noise but little performance improvement (not saying you did- heck if I could get Performance exhaust in US for my 430 without going dual i'd probably do it).

I passed on a Dinan Stage One recently as Ive read some concerning posts here. Not worth it based on fact I'm still deep in warranty. others have no issue going that route.

Ive been looking at Performance Brake upgrade cause I think the red would look cool w/ MG. As I drive a 430, clearly don't need it for anything performance related.

You know what looks cool? ///M on both of your exhaust tips.

Yes. Don't forget the car uses the rears to implement the e-LSD. Also, you owe it to the next owner who buys the car.

Hi, I think you will enjoy M Perf brakes. They look great and perform well. I swapped cars with my friend for a week. He has Audi RS4, the MPerf brakes definitely perform better than RS4 brakes.
