Engine oil

Guys - similar to the recent M models, is the owners manual of your F90 vague about oil viscosity and direct you to the sticker under the hood/bonnet of the vehicle?

In my 2017 M2, US model, it's 0W-30 for the recommended oil. What does the US M5 recommend?

Thanks!!!!

Interestingly, when I took delivery of my F90 in Australia, I looked in the boot expecting to see a nice bottle or two of something I could drink, or maybe a jacket. But no, I got a cap and 1 litre container of engine oil. I am now expecting oil burn to be an everyday experience.

In Australia, I was given a Shell product 0W-40. $30 a litre.

Interesting the USA version I have has a different viscosity oil than yours. (30 vs 40)

I really don't think anyone would notice any difference. I am sure your manual will advise either can be used. There will be a slight viscosity difference at elevated temperatures but not too much more than that and it is probably comes down to 95% marketing and 5% technical. The Shell 40 is being marketed as being great for twin turbos and even M. That enables it to be sold at a premium price.

It's the same for F10, pretty much 0W-30, 0W-40, 5W-30, 5W-40, depends on where you are at, but they all ok to use.

At 5500 miles no noticeable oil loss which is encouraging. Anyone know what filter the F90 uses?
