How about instead of DRL's we run headlights on full time

I do this on my audi. doesn't affect mpg (35watts~).

What would it take to add a quick relay to the light switch to turn the headlights on full time when the car is on?

I've got 10/2001 delivery on my audi, ran the headlights full time, they are still looking great (non adaptive xenon) 104K miles later. So they don't ever seem to wear out, maybe not as bright, but who'se gonna keep an n54 for 104K miles to see what breaks

ditto... if you set your car's headlights to 'on' they'll turn off when you turn off the car but they'll turn back on when you turn the car on.

oh no kidding. then how come the car whines at you with the headlight on the MFA display as soon as you remove the ignition?

i figured it was trying to tell you to turn off the lights?

so that headlamps on warning tone is just b/s?

they mean auto off/on im not sure on the usa cars but here in europe most countries have laws on headlight on even during the day so you have an option to turn your headlight on auto which mans it will turn on and off together with your engine with no warning light

wat's the point???

even tho xenon uses less power and last longer....i think its just stupid to run the lights all day long.....

for my old volvo....i had to change the headlight so often coz the program set the DRL to be headlight...and burnout my halogen bulb faster than using up a tank of gas....

Xenon has lifespan of 2000-3000 Hours.. which is a lot.... but the catch is that.. as the life of the bulb goes..... the color start to shift....and it also get dimmer and dimmer... SO you could end up with less output...unwanted color and they are not cheap to replace.

yes i run the xenon's fulltime on my 2002 audi a4 it has 104K miles and its fine no flicker no failure. the blinkers and halogen (non-bi-xenon) have been replaced countless times which is a real !@#!%$ since you have to take the airbox and entire assembly out.

i do think having your lights could prevent an accident.

anyways man i can not believe it you can leave the headlight in ON position and walk away and it is cool with that. i've never seen this on a car in my life. wow.

now if you put it into "park" lamp mode, it will scream at you when you stop the motor if you open the door and leave those lights on.

I will tell you something my 104K 7.5 year old audi. it has alot more issues (22psi chipped) than the headlights looking dim. matter of fact for a city slicker i don't really need them but i just find that people respect your right of way with the lights on.

go on a road trip sometime and turn on your headlights for a few hours as you left-lane it, then do the same without headlights on you will feel the pain. i average much higher speeds when my lights are on
