idrive sat nav

i noticed there was a navigational dvd in my cd player so i took it out, to play a cd . i then tried to use my sat nav but it asked for a dvd to be inserted for it to work . is this normal ? as i thought the sat nav would work normally and not only function unless there was a dvd in the drive ?

thank in advance

I take it u just have the 1 slot ? And yes if u take the DVD out u can't use nav as the maps are on the disc and don't upload to anything. Do u have an iPod connection in the glove box by any chance? Or aux in the arm rest?

Do you have the business or professional idrive? Buisness is square screen where the professional is the wider screen.

I'm assuming u have the business idrive as u have 1 DVD slot and no CD slot and the squarer display. If u go to eBay and look for BMW business navigation maps 2018. Gonna get 1 as well... been meaning to update for a while :-)

cheers for your help mate , i've only has the car 4 weeks and i've been trying to find out more about the car , i've already soldered the idrive controller as it push button had a mind of its own and at 250 from bmw for a new one i thought you tube was my best option and it works brilliant now , my brother in law did it for me who is a electronics engineer and he couldn't even find any broken solder on it he was quite baffled how it even fixed the problem after he soldered it . i also had the earth wire for the right number plate light broken so i've fixed that to. i've been searching the net for common problems i think i've sorted most of them now
