20" with 6" lip
ok - been lurking for a while and thought that i should post some pics of the coupe with new rims. Knew that i needed to be loyal to BMW so went with the mk motorsport rims....
so - let me know what you think - like it or hate it!! 9" wide - 20/235 - +38 offset and 3" lip 10.5" - 20/265 - +24 offset 6" lip |

Fellow member from Seattle/Bellevue. How do you drive around in Seattle with 20" rims? I'm having enough trouble with 19" as it is.

I love the wheels but I am not feeling the lips. I think it looks fine without a drop but that's just me...

My opinion is probably in the minority but why saddle such a low-torque, high strong sports car with these massively heavy and inefficient wheels, no matter how good looking they are?
There are plenty of great looking wheels that are light and have a decent lip. BBS RGRs for example, on a 9" wide front and 10" wide fitment probably has a ~4" lip and weight up to 6 lbs lighter than factory rims. And they're forged wheels so they're stronger than the OE wheels, and that classic BBS weave design fits a German engineered BMW much better IMO. |

any rubbing? Good Lord I wish I could do that to my non m roadster...... can I?
Looking at wheels, and I was about to post a thread about what the biggest tire size/offset combo I can get away with without rubbing. |

rubbing - currently there is zero, but i am looking to drop the car a good amount with coilovers - assuming it looks the part. The stretch helps with the clearance.
20"s are big ... and if i didnt have 3 sets of rubber sitting in the garage, i would have gone for 19" CSL's - but then again that has been done how many times now. weight wise - i am not sure what they weigh - didnt feel like alot, compared to the m coupes.... with my calibrated arm...... But i will pull the rear of an measure them tomorrow and we can put that to rest. MK motorsport have a pretty impressive history, primarily in BMW performance applications. If you look at their site for the coupe - they have more mods than any other company today (but i cant vouch that they exactly exist). The rims are really well made. http://www.mk-motorsport.de/html_en/e85_z4_m.htm lips - no lips. There is always a love hate. I honestly like both. But since i was looking for an agressive euro look, i thought i would go agressive as possible and let people make up their own mind. Seattle roads are fun - but i have yet to have any issues. I have had two sets of 20's now, on the coupe and a z4, and i felt both of them road better than std. sure i look for bumps and holes, but i dont go out of my way to miss them all. anyway - thanks for the comments... |
