2018 M550ix Move to 2019 M5

Hi everyone,

I was either the first or one of the first M550ix owners in North America (Bimmerpost posted that from my thread - not me) - and I love the M550ix; best all round car I have ever owned (leased). I have tracked my M550 (1/4) running 12.1 at 117 MPH - with stability control still on lol - so it is quick especially for its class.

That said, my Dealer made me an offer I could not refuse, so I jumped on it. This will be a 2019, with delivery scoped for March 2019 (I asked for that versus winter 2018). I am going Marina Bay Blue with Black interior...I have until (I believe September 2019) to confirm my options, which I hope is enough time for the Comp package to make its way out. That said (two things) my Dealer stated he has not heard about the Comp package coming out in 2019 and that it is mostly unchanged. Secondly; and I know more performance is always welcome, but I am leasing this car and have cars I race, so I am okay with the "base" car as it is already quicker and faster than the top of their line E63S (and as Car and Driver has run 10.9 at 127+ MPH - that is enough for a car I will not mod and will be my daily).

I was actually more(ish) interested in the ride and trying to make sure I don't lose too much cushyness - but most reviews state it's pretty good, and better than the Merc in that department.

So - it's a wait - but it is nice to have something to look forward to.

I shall be watching all of your arrivals and pickups - so cheers to the F90!

Lol - I am fortunate to have other things to look forward to this year - specifically a build that has been on the shelf for 3 years. So that should get me through the summer I hope.

That said - this time next year can't come quickly enough...

Do you want to share your impression for the M550 ...any problem with it? How was the climate control, the ergonomics, the engine, confort, etc, ...

I most certainly can - I wrote a full review on my website:

As to the climate control, I figured a way around it - but there is a patch/update - so that is a moot point now.

You got a great offer from your dealer - congrats!

I am in the same boat in terms of timing to take delivery (a year or so from now).

I hope they add more colors to the palette by then. The options are terribly boring now. Won't keep me from placing my order, but still...

I am good - because I love the blue. This Dealership had something to prove as we had some issues buying a car for my Wife. So they were going above and beyond what they normally would - which works out for me - that is why I won't discuss what I got as they won't be able to match it likely.

Good move, I have a pic on 550i's performance, new M5 will murder these numbers if you care these kind of things.

Thanks for that post - yes - what is awesome is my 1/4 mile slip is almost identical to the magazine/data you have...12.19 at 117 MPH (your source doesn't show MPH). Being fair I still had stability control on. So I'm guessing with Uber-fantastic air I could catch a 12.0.

THAT said - the M5 is in a whole other dimension running a full 1.2 seconds quicker and 10-12 MPH faster. As each tenth can mean anywhere from half a car onwards - we are talking 6-12 car lengths lol.

Plus - not that I would - but it can get on the road course as well. I just hope it still cruises nicely.

It's not a normal deal - with background - so there is no point.

I will say it is below msrp more than anyone I have seen here. It was more than good enough for me to justify the switch.

Everyone should be getting discounts soon. I am thinking once the initial orders are filled. 1 year from now we should be seeing the usual 7% plus discounts.

So - I don't know about that...although normally that would be true. Second year allocation is already almost gone in my area and it isn't really official yet. BMW has hit a home run with this car due to the performance and positive reviews it has received. I think year three will be when everything calms down enough for regular "good" deals. That said, there will be more deals in year two than one - that is for sure.

2018 M550iX Discounts available in November 2017

Kinda late to the party, but my deal on an MSRP list of $81,420.00 was a purchase price of $74,000 before TTL (9% discount off MSRP) and also BEFORE Type G discount of $2500 and BMW Finance offer of $3000(took out $5K for fun @ 1%).

All in.... $68,500 purchase price plus TTL.... making the overall discount applied at just under 16% versus MSRP. One of my better deals on a new model. Existing stock only though. Big dealership. Chattanooga came close but missed the last $2500.

How can allocations be gone when they haven't even been released yet? Dealerships don't even know how many spots they are going to get.

I do agree that BMW did a great job with this M5, however, it is not going to be a limited production vehicle.

Because a lot of dealerships will just put you on a wait list.

So, the dealer may have a wait list of 10 people, and just be telling those customers, "hey, we may only get 5 allocations, but if we get more, you'll be our next call to come in and submit your build sheet."

I understand that. I was just making a point that there is no way to tell that the '19s are nearly sold out already.

I agree, it would be tough to tell across the country, without taking hours to call each individual dealer and inquire about their waitlist/expected/hopeful number of allocations.

But it probably wouldn't be hard to tell locally if your dealer can forecast roughly how many allocations it expects, and already has a waitlist of that many people and then some.

When F90 first dropped I had ordered one with 9% off plus BMW Incentives/rebates, so I think it was around 12-14% off a fully loaded car with some BMW Individual touches, but then I heard that the Comp was coming so I held off because my F10 had comp and it made a pretty sweet difference in the drive. Not to long after my Local Benz dealer called me up and offered me about 7% off an new E63s and they already had it ( I'm very impatient I didn't want to wait 3 months lol), and so very happy with my choice but once I'm over the AMG I'm definitely going after the comp M5

Thankfully my dealer will be holding off an allocation for me on the Comp until I'm ready

Just ordered a 19 M550i for my younger brother got a pretty sweet deal on the lease, did you have a good experience with you car and what kind of issues did you notice if any?

Congrats on your new baby coming in! Awesome to see more people stepping up to the big boy Bimmer
