Charging 330i E90 ? Trickle ok ?
Hi Guys, please be gentle I’m a newbie lol. And only starting to learn about the car as only just collected. I’m away for days / weeks at a time and the car will be left idle. My old car I used to just leave on trickle charge all the time I wasn’t driving it. I’ve heard conflicting stories about you can mess up the electrics etc ?should I be ok to leave it topping up with a trickle charge for even say 3 weeks ?. And should it be ok to use those points under the bonnet to charge it ?.
I do have a newish battery but as I’m sometimes away for say 2-3 weeks she’s going be sat there slowly draining and I would rather it always be tip top. If anyone can just please reply and I can then hopefully pop her on a trickle charge . Cheers |

I wouldn't bother with a trickle charger.
If your battery is in good condition then 2/3 weeks should be ok. In the unlikely event voltage drops too low on your return then just charge it then. |

Thanks mate , appriciate the reply, as a newbie I just realise I’m coming to a car that has a lot More electrics etc than my old one. I do believe it has a recent new battery, but then the cold weather drains a little more maybe if stood idle too ? Do they have slightly larger battery’s on these cars too ? To maybe compensate for the electrics ? Cheers

I have a 2006 330d with the original battery. I have a 'SMART' charger that i just connect up in under the bonnet and leave it when the car is not in use for weeks. I do not disconnect battery. The charger will also 'cycle' the battery to disulphate the plates. To do this you must have a decent charger that will not over charge as modern batteries are usually 'sealed'.
