New turbo

Hi all,

Just thought I would share my good news,

first the back ground story, after having our wee 1 series for over a decade, we decided we wanted a new car well new to us any way so bought a 62 plate 320i xdrive Msport, this was in September.

Current events- Since we purchased the car it has rattled when first started in the morning and through out the day when cold and there was also a hesitation that annoyed me but due to constant work constraints this was tolerated as the car still drove fine to a certain extent in every day usage. But around 3 weeks ago my wife declared there was an issue with the car, she described it as if the car was struggling I hadn't driven the car in a wee while so took it a hurl and sure enough the car was very lethargic and very hard to drive smoothly, as the car was an approved used bmw I booked it in to get checked out. So I dropped it off last night . I know the lead technician at my local bmw garage and spoke to him and he advised to drop it off the night before so he could hear the rattle, got a phone call at dinner time tonight to say the car had been checked out and due to a technical bulletin (?) the car will be getting a new turbo

Due to this having to be sent from Germany the car is booked in for the 8th of march to have this fitted

That’s what I thought lol hopefully it cures the issues and I will have a nice smooth car again and hopefully it will be a wee bit quicker also as it seems to be very lethargic

I am pleased I read this, my 328i has the same symptoms, I haven't yet contacted the dealer. Only started the rattle a few days ago and doesn't feel as quick as it used to be.

2014, covered under Approved Used warranty until May. 22k miles on it. Been in dealers constantly since bought last year for various faults. Likely to be my last BMW after this experience.

What's your oil consumption been like? I just checked mine and in 813 miles it's used 3/4 of a litre

Been okay actually, just making a horendous rattling when lift off throttle currently. Hopefully goes bang before warranty expires not after...

Just got my car back from dealers, they said a bearing had failed causing camshaft to move about, causing wear to engine and clutch so replaced both with 5 days remaining on warranty. Not best pleased they said oil was full of metal just 2 weeks after they serviced it and changed oil...

Glad it got sorted under warranty bud, touch wood mines has not used any oil since having the turbo replaced but over the last few days have noticed the ticking coming from the top end of the engine is very loud, seems to be really loud between idle and around 2K, I know these engines are noisy but this seems excessive to me
