OEM Tint

I saw a thread about a "Sun Package" from the factory. Thinking about tinting my f31 and just wondering if anyone knows what the % of tint Munich uses?

Not sure if the grades of tinting for exported cars from Germany to the US are differs, but at my reimported (former Cali) F32 I would rate the percentage to 35% at the rear passenger windows and rear window.
Hence you could not choose at ordering the depth of tinting (e.g. VW let you choose 65% or 95%) and facing the fact that your different states into the US have different tolerances before got pulled over I would guess around 20% but not more.

All US passenger models are 70%, because every state has their own rules, and they're not going to build different versions for every state. What's nonsensical is that SUVs don't have to follow the same rules, as they're not classified as passenger vehicles. If they're not passenger vehicles then it would be logical that they wouldn't have rear seats, but 'logical' and 'governmental regulations' are mutually exclusive terms.

Interesting thanks. I like a lighter tint so maybe I'll try 20%. Just want to keep the temps down a bit and I also have the rear blinds for extra privacy if needed.

20% is not a light tint, 50% is a light tint. Also be sure of what your state allows. In New York it's 70%, and since the factory windows are 70% that means no tint. In my state it's 35%, but since the factory tint is 70% adding a 50% tint to it makes a total of 35%.

Ah I see, I was backwards. I think I might like 50% on the front side windows and then maybe 35% in the rear. Or maybe just 50% all around minus the front of course.

Any tinting of the front side windows is probably illegal.

Yea. Although here in LA...very common. Many people have blacked out front sides. Its only a fix-it ticket I think anyway.

It's also cop bait, a highly visible probable cause invitation to pull you over and give you a hard time.
