Best Route from Lincoln to Guildford?

A1 all the way to M25

Straight across to M1 at Leicester then M1 to M25.

Or A1 to Wyboston then across to M1 to M25.

They all sound as crap as each other lol!

The minimum time on the m25 - the stretch between A1 and A3 for Guildford at junction 10 is shit...

I guess in reality the answer depends what time of day and whether you want fun, speed, ease or whatever....

I’m going to be hitting the 25 around bloody 5ish rush hour

Just after quickest and easiest. And I realise that nothing that involves the m25 is ever quick lol! That bit I’m used to, it’s the bit between Lincoln and the M25 I don’t really know, usually I’m heading up the opposite side of the country!

I don't think there is a route for that trip that you could describe as fun. Every option is a pretty dull drive. Train would be my choice, although even that is 3 changes.

have you considered going clockwise?

A1, A14, M11, M25, A3

Given the M25 past heathrow sucks you might find clockwise is quicker.

Not sure the Dartford Crossing and the bit around Crawley are much better...?

Maybe take the route to Grimsby, over the bridge to Hull, a boat to Zeebrugge, down through France and back across to Portsmouth and up to Guildford.... definitely more fun!

SkyJawa take it Lincoln is the place new car is coming from? and Surrey is home? At that time of day I might look to get on to the M1 by Leicester and then off onto the M69 to Coventry, down the A46 to the M40, then whatever route is best from M40 to Surrey - maybe down to Newbury way and back in? Not really sure where Guildford is in relation to M4 and M3 - even though my son did 4 years at uni there, we always used M1 M25 and A3 but it was generally out of rush hour / at a weekend...

I have yeah - its about 20 mins longer though could sit for longer than that round heathrow, but won't Dartford be just as bad in the rush hour?

LOL - I like the ferry idea!!

Yes that's where its coming from so a bit of a grotty drive back. Its a good call, love the M69 way have used that many time when seeing relies in York, and it doesn't seem to add much time. It also gives me more ways of avoiding the M25 as I can come off M40 at High Wycombe.

I think I'll go that way! Cheers

I do Camberley area to Derbyshire fairly frequently and my very helpful Audi satnav will reroute me that way if the delays on M25 are above about 20 mins - so about 50% of the time then!

It's generally worse kent to essex in the evenings.

From experience I've always found the stretch by Heathrow the worse part of the M25 but it can be 6 of 1 and half dozen of the other...

Why not keep going past Leicester towards Leamington Spa/Junction 15 M40 then down to M25? Minimizes time on M25 and no current speed restrictions on M40 as far I'm aware.

Edit - just realised others have intimated similar...

The best route will depend on where the big accident is that particular day etc. So need for something like RTTI (or better) before the outcry!!) and some luck on timing/journey
