I know it's a minority sport in this country, but I've been a follower of the sport since I was teenager and learned the game playing John Madden NFL on the Sega Megadrive!

Somehow I ended up following the Philadelphia Eagles, so stayed up last night to see if they could beat the odds and overcome the best team of the last decade or more.

It was quite possibly the best game of American Football there's ever been! The most yards of offence of any NFL game in history, and the second most points of any Super Bowl, and it went right down to the very last play of the game as the clock went to zero.

The Eagles win certainly made up for the shockingly bad Scottish rugby performance

If anyone has any appreciation or understanding of the game then I'd heartily recommend trying to see the highlights of the game.

No. Terrible exploitation of women in the cheerlead team. Utter disgrace.

Jay Ajayi was born and raised in London, lived there till he was 11 or so I believe. He's very physical, fast and big running back. He's had a great season, and a solid match last night.

I ended up watching for the first time in my life to see what all the fuss was about. Glad to hear my first ever game was one of the best there's been! Maybe I can say I've peaked now and never watch another! Was better than expected in fairness though had no real idea what was going on and the constant stop start nature was tedious.

Glad you enjoyed it despite not really understanding it!
Once you understand the game then the stop start nature disappears, a bit like it does in cricket. It's just a part of the nature of the game. Given the tactical complexity of the game it allows for replay and discussion of those nuances, which for serious fans is an important part of the enjoyment.

Nice to see us doing well in the former colonies.

I made the first half and Justin Timberlake last night... just finished watching the rest.

Simply amazing game, edge of the seat - so much too and fro with constant action. Brilliant.

I haven't watched whole game since I used to work in the states but another friend convinced me to watch. Glad I did, really impressed with how the game has come on - but then realised my last game was maybe 20 years ago!!

I used to be mad crazy about it through my teens and early twenties then not so much, but much more so again over last few years, having attended one of the Wembley games a few years ago.
The Eagles are playing one of their games here in October so I'll probably get some tickets for it again.

Mrs Tengocity now understands the rules and can follow a game, and it's the only sport she'll actually tolerate watching!

I've never got into NFL but if the game was that good I may well try and find it on catch-up.

I have been watching since 1985 Bears won. I moved to Philadelphia from Sanderstead (S London) in 2003 and have followed the Eagles since then. Is was a shoot out, fantastic game and the family was fretting most of the time. Got my SuperBowl gear today and will be in Philly Thursday for the parade. My nephew really got into it this year and loved Wentz...he is 12. Watched it on my OLED which was very nice

E.A.G.L.E.S (and for my sins I'm a Palace fan... the Eagles!!!)

Definitely worth catching the highlights, though given how much great play there was throughout the match, the highlights are pretty much the whole of it, but at least with all the breaks taken out.

It does help if you have at least a rudimentary understanding of the rules of the game though, and if you understand it in more depth then the tactical complexity gives it a richness far beyond the more obvious initial viewing would give you.

I learnt the rule on Joe Montana Sport Talk Football (MegaDrive) and Madden as well as watching.

Tengocity is right the whole game was a great offensive battle. Great pass plays and runs and some big hits! Enjoy!

I stayed up for it and was glad I did.

Nick Foles threw the game of his life. Hugely impressive performance from him and some very brave calls to run the ball instead of taking a field goal attempt or punting it up-field (which I never really expected them to do against the Pats). The rest of the Eagles had a stunning game too. The stats at the end made for very interesting reading.

The only bad thing about it was the half time performance by JT (which was beyond woeful).

I too decided to stay up and watch it following years of not even making it to half time. Got a few friends round, rustled up some chicken wings and nacho's, drank copious amounts of Bud light, turned out to be a decent event. I keep threatening to give it more attention every year but I quickly forget the enjoyment of the SuperBowl by the time the season starts again in September, tell its own story I suppose. There is only one type of football though.

I think most folk our generation got in to American Football through Madden on the Megadrive, and Mick Luckhurst/Gary Imlach presenting it on Channel 4 on a sunday!

Was Gary the kicker that played NFL from the UK? There was a store in Sutton that sold gear, my friend and I used to go over to... I was into the Raiders in the '80's!
