Can dealership order a car without an allocation spot?
Can a dealership put in an order for your car if they don't have an allocation spot? Would your order just sit in a queue until a spot opens up for that dealership?
Or, do they need to have an allocation spot in order to place your order in the first place? Just wondering because the dealership "placed my order" for a new G30 build on 1/22 and they still don't see a production number available for me 2 weeks later. |

They can put in an order without an allocation but the car will not start production until it has an allocation. In my case, they "placed the order" late November but it took almost a month to get an allocation/build week. Often what a dealer can do is "steal" an allocation from another dealer so that they can secure an earlier build date.

I kind of figured that, so thanks for the confirmation.
Fortunately my i3 lease isn't up until early May, so hopefully that should be plenty of time for my car to get built & shipped. |
