Anyone else regretting buying a Diesel?
The recent MOT changes and "Monkey Gate" are really making me regret the 435d...
I wish I could swap to a 435i or something, but the cost would be too much. Though on the bright side, I don't need an MOT for 3 years. |

I thought so too, until I saw an article earlier saying no manufacturer is reaching their stated emission figures.
I took it with a grain of salt (I can't actually find it again now so it might have been BS), but it's still made me think twice. |

Yeah it is. I do think it'll be fine for most people, and I have 3 years to spot any problems others may have so I can jump ship (probably at cost).
However I was planning to keep the car for 5-10 years, and it looks like I'll need to swap earlier than that. |

Mot it before the warranty runs out, if it fails, warranty sorts it 😜

I don't regret it but I do want to get back into a petroleum car. The d is epic in everything that it does it's just a bit soulless really.

no, lets put this in perspective, diesel is unlikely to go away fully as a fuel for a long time, is it delivery better economy than the petrol equivalent - yes.
frankly the only time I need to be concerned is in 6 years when its got 150k on the clock and worth 0 anyway, then if I get £1 or £2 is the only discerning factor. But its OK, because by then we will have hydrogen refiling stations and electric infrastructure that can support a gazillion Teslas, oh.... wait...

I genuinely really love what my D can do with the mix of power and range. I go across Europe a few time a year so appreciate the range it gives me and Cruz ability.
I'm thinking of trading in for another this year .....yes despite all the hype. |

I fill up near Hull, jump in ferry, then next day drive back across Europe to Switzerland. Then have a week of pootling about without filling up. Range on filling up is just short of 1000 KMs. Only need to stop on way back for me, pit stop to refuel myself. I love the lazy torque, flexibilty and the way it is just simply good at everything. No regrets whatsoever. I bought it for what I liked, not what others recommended. Still like it. D.

This makes me laugh really!
Lets not forget why petrol was the devils fuel a few years back! What would happen if everyone went back to petrol? What the green car haters really want is the demise of the internal combustion engine. Anyhow, I love my diesel, I like the sound of a straight six with turbo. I love the torque. It cruises silently (well apart from the tyres!) then shifts when you put your foot down. Reasonable fuel economy too. Whats not to like! |

Diesel. Runs almost all the freight transportation globally. For this reason its not going to go away any time soon and as its so closely linked to transport its unlikely to go up massively in price either.
Besides, petrol demand will drive up the price when OPEC strangles supply - it could become really quite expensive. I don't regret my buy - diesel will be here long after its worn out and I leave this planet. |

Imagine doing a polar expedition using electric vehicles, or perhaps a trip through the desert on safari. Solar just isn't as efficient and batteries weight more than a container of fuel. Also diesel is widely used in the above situations because it's significantly safer than petrol, which is a little bit too easy to ignite. I think my worry is that the government will put yet more 'fines' on diesel owners, regardless of reality. I mean, look at the £40k+ car value tax. I hope that gets removed, it's incredibly unfair. |

I do one big European trip a year, around 3500 miles and I agree, it's superb when smashing out the miles and its economy is a welcome bonus. I just miss the occasional roar of a straight petrol 6 or a V8. It's a tricky car to replace though, there's not much out there that can match it unless you're prepared to dig deep. I tried a Macan Diesel last year and man, does that thing not shift. Diesel will be round for a while yet.
