2 Series Audio Options

Hi,

After some advise on audio options for the 2 series coupe.

The car currently has the base audio package, the guy is not after spending loads out but want to improve.

Looking at the Focal IFBMW-C Coax speakers as the simplest plug and play option to start, then if more required add in either the focal subs or earthquakes and a JL audio amp with harness.

Any other suggestions or reccomendations or routes poeple have taken?

If doing more initially, then the budget has a top end of £600.

Thanks in advance

Maybe not a direct answer to your question regarding the speakers in question

But I think this thread exhausts just about all the options with regards to upgrading the stock sound system(s)

Cheers!

I started with the base audio system. I first put in IFBMW-S in the front

and purchased two Harman Kardon‎ A pillar grills for the tweeters to get them up higher for better projection.:

Later I installed the IFBMW-C in the rear side panel (it's a convertible). Biggest improvement came from the front install. The rears just added some more mid-level depth to the sound. Probably not audiophile quality sound, but much better sound than the over priced optional Harman Kardon OEM system.

Was this on the standard Hi-fi system or HK one? If so, where did you grab the grills from?

It was standard HiFi so I needed grills:

The part numbers are:
51337269361 and 51337269362

These come with a tweeter and sound deadening foam. At the time the cheapest ones were on ebay for $50 each. I took out the OEM tweeter and popped in the Focal tweeter, it was a perfect fit.

Ok, I just did a quick search and mybimmerparts.com has them for $52.08 each

I see and were the tweeters then powered from some kind of splitter from the door speaker?

The answer to this is in other threads in this subforum. Please before muddying up a thread.

Thank you, and welcome!

Shhhh! Don't tell Viffermike I replied...
But, the IFBMW-S comes with everything you need, cables, cross-overs, connectors etc. It's all just plug and play, everything fits as if it came from BMW, except it sounds better.

Is the IFBMW-S a direct swap for the rears as well?

Focal says this is for 1, 3, 5 series

F20/F21 Technical wire adaptation to fit in those cars models

Another option

Another option that is low cost and significant improvement to base system is replacing front and back speakers with coaxial Focal Access 100AC speakers and removing center speaker. This is not plug and play, but cost of this simple install was less in my experience than the premium paid for plug and play, and I have been happy with the results.

I don'know I have two convertibles, for the 135i and M235i convertibles the IFBMW-C were a direct drop-in replacement. On the convertibles these go in the rear side panels since there is no rear shelf. As a side note, getting the rear side panels off is not for the faint of heart as most of the rear interior panels and seats have to come out to get to the speakers.

Does anyone know if the focal ifbmw-s tweeters will fit in the oem HK window sail on a f22 non HK car? I plan on purchasing the HK window sails. Thanks

Thanks, Viffermike's comment was unnecessary and completely unhelpful, basically shitpost.

This is a forum. It's not a chat room, and we are not service reps.

Rather than using someone else's thread to ask a question, research that question first. For instance, the IFBMW-C's product page on Focal's website has a Specification Sheet with an image of everything included in the kit:

https://www.focal.com/sites/www.foca...tion_sheet.pdf

This took me less than a minute to find.

If you can't find the answer, then ask the question. That's generally how forums that function well for most involved work.

Yes, see my post #6. You buy the HK window sail, pop out the HK tweeter and take the perforated screen off the Focal tweeter and pop the Focal tweeter in the HK window sail. Then run the Focal provided cable through the cable channel in the styrofoam sound adsorbing material and pop the HK sail and styrofoam with the Focal tweeter in the door. It is all plug and play, there is no cutting, twisting, kludging, gluing, forcing, adapting anything. Fits like OEM only it sounds better.
