335i HD Video
Hey guys, I just wanted to share a video that I made with a friend of mine.
He came over and we decided to make a video of my 335 using my new Canon HV30. I must say that I am very happy with the camera, and the shots came out better than what I was anticipating from such a small camera. I tried my damnedest to try to nail a "Top Gear" feel, and I hope I got a portion of their excellence. I have uploaded two versions, one in HD: http://www.vimeo.com/1094686 And one on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ffaz__tRGEA I really hope you enjoy it, and thanks for your time! Oh, and comments are most certainly welcome! |

HD cam does amazing work. You need more lens effects to get the Topgear feel. Also, I would take off that prestige badge on the rear of the car. I think BMW is already synonymous with prestige there's really no need to reemphasize it.

nice gear, just hold the tripod steady, I don't know if it has a bearing - but you should get a smoother transition when you're moving the cam :-)
p.s. more angles! Last edited by darkphantom; 05-31-2008 at 02:40 AM.. |

Looks great! Add some vignetting and change the color tones to get that "Top Gear look." If you want more fluid shots and don't have a fluid head on your tripod, loosen it all the way and practice getting smooth movements without restrictions. Good choice on the HV30 - I shoot with a XH-A1 myself (go Canon!).

Very nice job! Now you should make one after the car's fully modded
BTW, how come your car temp is so high? Mine never passed the middle mark even if I drove my car (high throttle) for a long time.

couple things...agree with the tripod...need to get some lube or something. Second, bounce around the car...thought it was de ja vu there on the shots for a second. Not that I could do any better...
no sport pack...so no paddle shifters, different wheel, etc. Looked like the oil temp has a different range when non-sport? Middle number looked like 210, think mine is 240. Also...still in break in? Rev that thing past 4k and scare yourself a little.

Great work... I agree with a little more steady tripod work though but overall great video and nice driving shots.

Great Video.
+1 on the tripod. Also too much background noise inside the cabin. |

Thanks everyone for the kind words!!
In reference to the tripod, yeah, while I was shooting I knew it wasn't going to come out super smooth because it kept getting stuck, then would go semi smooth. Does that make sense? Also, I realized later that I could have loosened a part of it, but that made the pole where the camera physically sits unsteady/wobbly. I regret buying such a cheap tripod, and will definitely invest in one with a ball bearing. The video was shot in 30p, and the name of the song is called "Late Winter Storms" (Tobias Lilja Remix), and the artist is Vibrasphere. In reference to the oil temps, that thing got hot quick! Usually, I don't work my car super hard, and if I do it's not for very long, but that day the car took a royal beating! It must have thought that it was going through a track day or something! When I finished filming, I exited the car with it still running, and it was SUPER loud, so I decided to open the hood, and let it settle down for a little while. Needless to say it quieted down as the temps decreased gradually. Once again, thank you for your kind words, and just a mini-update, hopefully I will get my hands on an SL55 to shoot next week. Be on the look out for that! |
