Anybody got an experience of all season tyres?
Hi
Something that I keep looking at and cant help but think they will be “jack of all trades and master of one.”. After the recent snow, my full fat winter tyres (Vredstein Wintrac Extreme S) were excellent. Wondering if anybody has tried them? Looking at the Vredstein Quatrac 5. Thanks |

We run cross climates on my old (now wife’s) e87 118d, she just drives it to work and back, so no spirited runs cross country etc. I ran the car on these tyres for a month before my f31 turned up, in September and early October they were great, plenty of grip in the cooler wet weather, in the snow recently they were great to, no quite as impressive as the Nokian WRA4 on the f31, but still did a good job of keeping the car pointing in the right direction, without them it would have been interesting.

We ran Quatrac 4 on my wife's old car as a compromise for all seasons. Probably 3-4 years and maybe 3 sets or so.
Upsides: Near winter tyres winter performance. Downsides were: Lots of tyre noise (people often thought wheel bearing had gone etc) Lower mpg (31 vs 28 ish) Lower tyre life vs good summers Lower performance in summer (not a biggie but if you're a keen driver it is noticeable) Very expensive. All in they're a compromise. At the time they made sense for us. If you've got the means and space to store winter wheels it's just all together better imo. |

RB, I have been giving this a little thought too. My Michelin Pilot SSs on an Xdrive have been a bit skittish on cold surfaces in the last few weeks, probably black ice.
I am resolved to switch to Michelin Cross Climate Pluses next November when the tyres will need changing. The reviews I have read seem to sum it up nicely. If you live in the Highlands, Peaks or Lake district get some winter tyres. In the North otherwise All weather tyres would be very suitable for you - Goodyear Vector 4 Seasons if you are concerned about guarding against snowfalls or in a place like Newcastle (where I live) , Michelin Cross climates if your concern is ice or cold wet roads. The Michelins are much the best tyre in summer which is also a consideration, of course. I know these are high cost tyres but they are certainly the winners of all tests of All weathers that I have seen. |

Beginning to think I may just have to get separate winter wheels. |

Just off the press Nokian have produced a new all weather called the WR G4. This one will be aimed at the extreme areas of the UK as Nokians are particularly aimed at snow safety - no test yet although Nokian claim they are fabulous (as they would). |
