Recommended light bulbs?

Please note that I am talking about halogen light bulbs (not xenon).

One of my low beam light bulbs (type - H7) is busted and needs to be replaced. Maybe it is a good time to give my car brighter, whiter light, so I did some web-search to find out there are some high-performance light bulbs that somehow mimicks white light:

https://www.amazon.com/SYLVANIA-Silv...ct_top?ie=UTF8

But user reviews for these types of bulbs are not that good... someone even mentioned that some of these high-perf bulbs have shorter lifespan than normal bulbs... should I just stick to the cheap, normal halogen light bulbs?

Any suggestion is appriecated... thanks!

There used to be a fantastic H7 bulb called an Osram Rallye or something like that. Essentially it was a 65w H9 capsule with an H7 base. It would put out almost double the light, with a solid lifespan too. All of the common high performance bulbs like the Sylvania have hilariously short lives. You might be able to hunt down a 65w bulb, it's a pretty solid upgrade. The VOSLA H7 +120 is a new German made bulb with performance similar to the old Osram Rallye.

You could also bake your headlight open and swap in an HID projector if you want a serious lighting upgrade.

Don't make it complicated, just get an OEM bulb from your local BMW. You don't replace your headlight bulbs frequently like you do oil changes.
Since the day I drove new my 2010 E92 335 home, I have not had to replace the 8+ year old headlight bulbs. The only things I have replaced was one of the DRL bulbs and one fog light bulb.

Those seems to be good lightbulbs, but e90 headlight requires 55w bulb...

After learning that high perf. headlight bulbs does not last long (around 400 hrs indicated by "manufacturer"), I decided to stick with OEM lightbulb from BMW dealer - as you have suggested, extra $10 is worth it for peace of mind.

Thanks for the suggestions! Unfortunately, these high perf bulbs does not last long as the regular ones... only around 400 hours indicated by manufacturer. I will be buying regular ones...

No problem, I was just listing the stuff you could run up and buy at AdvancedAuto or something quick.

But I just saw in your above post going OEM is only a $10 increase in price which is not what I would expect from BMW at all, lmao.

Glad you found what you're looking for

Ouch. Make sure the bulb is 55 watts. Hope the damage is not done to other parts...

Update - paid $30 CDN + tax for an OEM bulb from a local BMW. The BMW OEM halogen bulb is sourced from OSRAM. Spent around 20mins to replace the bulb. My car likes the new bulb.

Thanks everyone for the reply

P.S - this youtube video was useful for replacing the bulb!

Sylvania sucks

Look for LEDs that dont give bulb out warnings on BMWs

I’m running the 65w Osram Rallye bulb for 1 year + in my e91 and have no issues. Great bulb. If you can find them, buy them. Shame they don’t make them anymore.

Understatement of the year...

Thats for the bright ones. The dim ones are rated for a "whopping" 120-200 hours iirc.

When I read that on the packaging at Walmart I remember being verrrry pissed off that I'd given this company money

PS philips is rated at 400 hours, also pretty damn underwhelming if you stick em in DRLs/angel eyes or use em all the time --- but at least not replace monthly awful (or even more often if your job involves driving --- just imagine how cabbies or pizza guys must loooooove the xtravisions)
