Hotmail Email Account = Dodgy Driver !? WTF

Wow this is a new one to me! I had heard that websites track the PC and OS you use in general (eg holiday website quotes a higher cost to a user with the latest £2k MacBook vs Windows XP P.O.S !) but email address means a higher risk of accident?

I see it's admiral .. they take the piss. They're the company that asks if you've been on a speed awareness course .. most insurance company's only ask if you have any motoring convictions/points. Wouldn't touch admiral personally.

I think something needs to be done about this type of thing, surely this is the epitome of descrimination? Charging people more based on their sex, job, etc. is ridiculous enough, but because you once years ago you got a hotmail email address, and still have it because who wants to change their email address with everyone they know and every business they have an account with, is just refuckingdiculous!

I think Insurance Companies have to be able to justify the use of their underwriting criteria using data analysis. Otherwise they are wide open to the discrimination accusations Teaston is talking about (age, sex, postcode etc).

As firms become better at data analysis I think we run the risk that Insurance premiums become tailored to the individual much more than now, which somewhat defeats the notion of the many paying for the few.

Exactly, insurance is socialising the risk as much as is reasonable without rewarding those who abuse the system.

I'd be surprised if email provider impacts car insurance risk that much.

I suppose now you can just keep wasting their time getting quotes and swapping email address until you find the cheapest haha!
This is sure to backfire on them.
