Autocar update on new 3 series M Performance models

https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/n...formance-model

Sounds like BMW will continue with RWD for new M340i model, and xdrive for the M340d model.

Lets hope it truly is more of a step up from the standard cars.

Bit disappointing with 360bhp why not make It 380 as used in other variants of the b58? By the time it comes out the c class will have been revamped and doubtless the c43 will have more power and the s4 may be near revamp by then.

I know bmw typically have less is more when it come so equivalent cars from rivals but if they want to promote the m lite range then up the power!

The bit that concerned me in the article was the bit that said they're doing more to add comfort, as I just don't have that much confidence that they will manage this without sacrificing the great handling. They need to sort out the refinement, in particular road noise, but not just make them softer.

Couldn't agree more. If they make it softer, you might as well get a Merc and have done - and a pipe and a pair of slippers at the same time

That said, my 4GC LCI is certainly firmer than my pre-LCI F31 was, although on Bridgestone Potenzas, it's hard to tell what is going on - might as well be riding on wood

Road noise all the way, awful cars when compared to an F10 on a motorway.

Mu guess is that they are treading a fine line trying to get some of the soccer-mom C-class customers back via the dreaded "comfort" upgrades for the low-mid range 3-series models whilst keeping the bar high with the M340 variants
I dont know if that will exactly be seismic as imo the selling point of the C-class is the world-class stunning interior it sports.. which isnt that important to me but IS to some people
I really doubt even the G-series will be able to match that in its next iteration

What other variants have 380bhp? I thought 360 was max currently offered, i.e. 340i/440i + MPPSK or X3 M40i

The main thing is will we get a M340i x drive Tourer with decent sports suspension that is actually hard / firm and adaptive modes for comfort.

If they do that, I will buy one, however it really does depend on the handling.

Power and tech is a given.

But suggests that the 340i will be RWD, and no mention of drive.

Perplexing that BMW don't seem interested in making fast estates, when Audi and Merc sell loads.

If they make the interior anything like the C or E class then I wouldn't come within a million miles of buying one.

You hardly see a saloon 3 in Germany, they are pretty much an estate nation. Can't see bmw dropping estates.

BMW estates aren't big sellers in the US. BMW's own doing for not putting fake wood panelling down the sides

I'm talking proper S4/RS4 rivals.

If they just add comfort and go cheap on suspension and steering feel then it'll be a big fast bland turd.

But it'll be perceived as sporty so great!
